Scottish independence.

I disagree.

Scotland could easily come up with their own currency...
Why doesn't Salmond just say that then? Currency has the major issue for the last 2 years and still is for a good number. Salmond could bring those over right now just by saying; we'll create our own independent currency. It would probably tip the balance. Except he knows it's not workable and the NO lot would turn him to mincemeat.

Salmond knows it's 'unworkable' because leaders who try to introduce a government/independant currency (as opposed to a private one) get slotted...

Did you see what happened to the last two american presidents who tried to do just that? ;)

Uh, rest of my post?

Salmond wants into EU = EU wants scotland into Euro.

The EU is the only barrier to the currency issue.
I said as much in a previous post. The point of my last post though was that Salmond knows that an independent Scottish currency would not be good for Scotland. Otherwise, rather than all the avoidance, squirming and fudging over the last 2 years, he would have just said that's what we are going to do.

Regarding this, it seems likely Scotland would join the Euro if it goes to Yes.

They would join the EU (could take 5 years apparently), and then if they meet certain conditions, would have to join the Euro.

If they don't meet those critera, it means they aren't good enough, effectively.

You can see why Salmond is being cagey.

Yes... divorce is acrimonious and the English must ensure that their representatives give nothing away in the settlement negotiations.

Any English political party that knuckles under to Scottish demands should be cast into the wilderness by the electorate. The English have subsidised the Scots for many many years and the end result has been a torrent of abuse and hatred from the Scot Nats.

If the Jocks do go for their own currency they could call it the Skinto cos that what they will be. ;)

That one next to the A74 seems like a good place to start.

Oh hang on, that's a map crease...

I will not be surprised if the No campaign win the referendum by a margin far greater than that suggested by the polls. The nationalist bullies have made it difficult for unionists to speak out, so many will toe the militant line until the moment they step into the booth to make their mark without fear or favour.

Yes I could probably agree with that because in a referendum for a united Ireland I'd have to keep my head down or risk having my home burned down.

And leave us stranded with the rebels?
No thanks.

I'd like to see a big Orange order march in Glasgow in celebration of a no vote with union jacks held high. :D
United we stand, Divided we fall.
