Time to do away with religion

We all know it acts as a crutch for many but this is the 21st century now, it's about time everyone grew up.
I believe it would be a good thing if there was a government campaign to ridicule all religions and put them firmly in the category of superstitious mumbo jumbo where they belong.
Obviously this will never happen, for many reasons. But if it did what better way to counter the current radicalisation of muslim youth than with some serious questions going right to the heart of their ridiculous beliefs.
As said this would necessitate doing the same for all other religions, c'est la vie.

I'd already conceded in my first post that this will never happen (not in the foreseeable future anyway), I'd also said that imo it would have to come from government.
Putting that aside do you not think the modern world would be a better place without religion?
I do, the third world too would be immeasurably better if they weren't all killing each other over some god or other. They could all kill each other over something else instead.

I think the world would be a batter place without religious terrorists/fanatics or any other terrorists/fanatics for that matter.

Trouble is you will always have disagreements over territory, politics, food and energy. These disputes will continue unless we can replace oil whilst accommodating the burgeoning world population.

The people connected to the church by us are constantly doing charitable things for people less fortunate, pensioners, disabled people etc. They are an altruistic selfless bunch who give up their free time and pray on Sundays. Ho hum.

If there was no church there would still be good people just as there are plenty of good people who are not connected to the church.

I agree with the OP but it will not happen because, although you and some of us do not respond, religion is still used to control the population here and more so, as has been said, in the US.

A US president would not get elected if it was known that he were an atheist.

Ironically, the only way in which it would work on a global scale would be for God himself to come down, explain that all these prophets; messiahs, visions etc have been a load of old bunkum and that what he really wants is for us to stop using his name in vain and actually try getting along together instead of playing divisive "oneupmanship" games
