We all know printers are a con, right? The manufacturers try to sell us over-priced ink and tell us that if we use unbranded inks it will damage their equipment and invalidate any warranties.

Our Canon MX925 last night flashed up a B200 fault code, print head blocked.

So I remove the printhead and rested it in a shallow bath of IPA (not India Pale Ale!) overnight.

This morning I dabbed off the IPA left on the surface and left it to dry for 2 hours. Then I refitted it to the printer and reinstalled the cartridges. It ran through some cleaning cycles, then the same code flashed up again.

I went to the menu and set the machine to do a deep clean, which it duly completed and printed off a perfect inkjet pattern test print.

Good, I thought and tried copying something to see the result.

It chuntered away to itself for a bit then, guess what? B200 fault code!

Why? If the cleaning was successful and the test print perfect, why does it revert to the same fault code?

Because like a car's ECU the fault is now stored in it's memory. There used to be devices on the market to clear faults from printer's memories, at least for Epson printers. But I haven't seen anything like that in a long time. Try Youtube.

Tried several methods to clear codes. No good. The printer is alternating between printing OK and showing error B200 at the drop of a hat...shrug...

I have an old R285, and every 30k pages I have to reset it with a WicReset program...
(The printer itself is now like one of Trigger's brushes, but saves me a fortune with a CISS system!)

So maybe try searching for a 'Waste Ink Counter reset' for your particular model?

A lazer printer may be a better long term bet
Can't say I've ever seen a 'lazer printer'...

Laser printers on the other hand are quite good, but nowhere near as economical as an inkjet coupled with a CISS :)

Tried all the suggestions and the printer keeps reverting to a B200.
Going to introduce it to the local recycling centre...

Which is a terrible shame, for something approaching four ton (according to amazon).

Do you have any local electronic smart r sez who could have a look at it?

surprised to hear you say that, but I don't know what a CISS is. Is it a woman who was born with female parts?

My laser (LED) is back on the road again after I got a new drum assembly off ebay.

A toner cartridge is nominally 7,000 pages which would be 14 packs of paper. Several years for me. How long does ink last? And how long an inkjet printer?

Just over two years for me. Although the HP before that lasted 5 years.

I suppose I could ring the printer cartridge shop in the village.

With current ink prices [my hp can be £32 for a set] it can be cheaper to buy a new printer complete with ink [under £30] and sell on you nearly new printer .

Hmmm. I have been looking at the Brother DCP L 3510.

Brother are adamant that their cartridges have a shelf life of 2 years unopened and only 6 months once opened.

The ink shop geezer is putting me off a laser MFC or DCP as I don't do enough "mileage". Also, he says the "cheap" remanufactered carts will clog up the system. He reckons I need quality "polymer" toner carts.

Which are recommending this: no carts but refillable tanks: somwhere between bog-standard inkjet and CISS??
