Update on newbie doing Drive belt progress, need further help please

You could put a paint line across the crank pulley to see if the inner and outer stay in same position or move as you turn engine off?.

hi
good idea with the paint, I think I know what you mean by it
so could a crank pulley cause this thud if it's bad ?
I was wondering, is it true you can start a car without drivebelt ? I was wondering whether to remove each pulley one by one to eliminate which one is rattling ?
I am sure this si a pulley/bearing noise its been doing it for months

thanks !!

If the pulley has no play in it, then whatever it is bolted to will be bent and will need changing. If it’s the tensioner, it will come complete with a new pulley.

I want you to know I appreciete you very much for helping me, without you guy's this would be much more difficult. I hope one day I can share this information no to others. thank you all.
I was wondering, I read you can start an engine without the drivebelt fitted, would I be able to remove each pulley/tensioner one by one to eliminate which is causing the rattling while the engine is running without the drivebelt fitted ?

please see the above video up 1 post , it has bene making this noise for a few months, happend more when I turn steering wheel either way. It is a grating sound coming from drivebelt area I think

thank you so much

You can run it without the belt for a wee while.

The pulleys won't be moving without the belt.

ah yes, of course they won't. I was hopeful for a minute there but I will have to find another way of doing it.
thank you for alerting me

Get a decent straight metal ruler and hold it flat across each pulley, will be obviously if one is out of alignment.

thank you
Do I hold it above the pulley or underneath or does that not matter ? I was wondering why the belt is fine after fitting it and looks straight from above, but after I turn engine off after 20 seconds or so I see it is wonky and that the belt has slipped off a little bit from

the crank pulley , what can cause that ?
there is also a pulley missing, thel ittle one that should be to the right of the crankshaft pulley

Hold it across the face of each pulley and gauge whether it's in line with the rest.

Definitely something wrong somewhere.

Sorry, I’m not sure. Probably. Why don’t you enter your car details on the Euro carparts website and see if a part with the same number comes up? BTW, you can see that that one has the locking pin already fitted from new so should be a lot easier for you to fit. (y)

I just found tihs on ebay brand new , says he bought it but it was wrong part and he didn't have invoice for refund, is it the right part for my car please ? £10 brand new in box 25 miles form me
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/INA-Driv...606901&hash=item23d522e3f4:g:jEQAAOSwo~1ejulr

Here's what to do

Ask the seller to send a photo of the label on the part's box so you can confirm the part number for yourself.

Go here, select your vehicle and check its the right INA brand part. You may need the logbook for chassis/engine number.

There is a close up of the part number on the box in the ebay advert. (y)

I'm probably going over what the good men and true have already said but anyway....with the belt off:
Spin each tensioner / guide by hand, listening for a whirr or rumble.....that includes the alternator.
See if the noise changes with the air conditioning OFF.
Look at the spring loaded tensioner and see if its wheel is parallel with the other pulleys (I have seen one bent one before, but not sure how it happened).
Get a lever behind the crankshaft pulley and see if it can be gently prised away from the engine. There should be no movement.
Looking at Mottie's original belt diagram there doesn't seem to be a PAS pulley - maybe the PAS is electric.
Keep us informed!
John :)
