Cornwall has suffered from two problems. Housing costs outstripping local wages due to people retiring to Cornwall or buying second homes. Highly seasonal work, due to its tourist economy.
IOW has the same problem, but house prices in most areas are still fairly low. Though gone are the days of getting a 4 bed house for 200k close to the sea front.
