We used to have bread and dripping for tea.
I think there was a whole generation of people dying in their 50's and 60's that used to eat bread and dripping for tea. They usually had dentures and knackered lungs too.

Lard is rendered pig fat .
Rendered beef fat is tallow.
Dripping is remnants and fat from cooking meat .
Rendering is extracting by melting, therefore dripping is rendered.

Tallow is not used in the production of food for human consumption. Its two chief uses are an ingredient in dog food or in soap production. We were talking in the context of food for human consumption.

Thankfully I seem to have come out the other side without either of those. I think those sufferers were generally on a poor diet full stop. We had the occasional pigs trotter to knaw on.

We had Knights soap company in North Woolwich and Ziff meats in Beckton that did that. They absolutely stunk! We used to call Ziff meats "Whiff meats".

Pigs trotter is a delicacy in Berlin: eisbein, i think they call it.
In the first series of River Cottage, Hugh F-W butchered one of his pigs and ate the lot, from tail-to-tongue: "everything but the squeal".
Rather them than me. I can't stand fat.

I remember that. Was that the one where he made black pudding from a bucket of blood? I remember it as "Everything but the oink".

That's the one.
'Oink'; 'squeal'...same difference when you pull piggys snout out of joint.
I don't like the taste of fat but the crackling on a fresh pork roast is something else. Mucho crispy.

Forgot, PB for a sandwich filling isn't bad.

When the first Mrs Secure worked at Tesco on the Deli counter, mild white cheddar was 99p a pound. 1989/90.
