Hi. My loft - in a 1930ish house - has had pigeons roosting in it for an extended period some years ago. (Its actually top flar in a conversion) I have removed the old heavily contaminated insulation and vacuumed out most of the droppings. A joyful task. I want to disinfect loft. Local...

Outside stairs joints and general issues

No, if it was bco i would not be worried. Because these stairs are a replacement, do not involve installing a lintle, and are not the fire escape route they do not need to be inspected by the bco, only need to be compliant. The council official inspecting the work is the same person who...

Outside stairs joints and general issues

Yes... disappointed doesn't cover it. I've lived there for about 15 years and always put off building new stairs partly by cost and partly by lack of understanding of the rules and how to work out timber sizes or support them properly. I've retired and moved in with someone else, Am...

Outside stairs joints and general issues

Thanks very much for that. I'm trying to decide if I should just accept it or if it's bad enough say no to. I'm letting the flat for a bit before i sell, so wont see if it deteriorates And frankly it worries the .... out of me.

Outside stairs joints and general issues

Hi all. I'm hoping for some advice about an outside staircase. Single storey. A builder has made this, but all the treads are fixed to the stringers with three screws at each end, into the endgrain, just butt joint. In places you can see light between the end of the tread and the stringer...
