Distribution box from 32amp generator supply?

Is this connected to an earlier comment about the generator possibly requiring its own specialised RCB? The quotation below is only a wiki but states a similar point. If so then it's out of my hands, that's the distro boys job. I'm starting to wonder if this whole issue is a gray area about...

Distribution box from 32amp generator supply?

Why do I need one then? I could buy this, get it PAT tested and the safety officer would go "yeah, nice PAT sticker, carry on". Brilliant. ;) That was referring to trailing flex and multigang extension sockets. See the quote my comment was refering to.

Distribution box from 32amp generator supply?

Not sure if that's a blatant trick question or not. I obviously don't know the sub-sections of faults like a pro. As discussed, I'm suggesting a 30mA RCD (fault protection) and 2x 16A MCBs (overcurrent protection). Are you suggesting more is needed? Do the off-the-shelf solutions include more?

Distribution box from 32amp generator supply?

Yet it has no safety cut out. I get the issue with cable size when downsizing connectors, it must be rated for the larger connector. Also the impracticality of 32A cable into 13A terminals. I like the sound of that, although it still allows for the use of non weatherproof 13A sockets even if...

Distribution box from 32amp generator supply?

Yet people are allowed to legally market this? http://www.pcwb.co.uk/catalogue/item/VIDADA10?awc=2371_1247686699_7c1dcabd62ba128cbe1e5bd0cc1846cd Where's the safety compliance in that? Is this a better product...

Distribution box from 32amp generator supply?

There won't be any 16Amp conns coming out of it so no issues with lack of fuse there. I'm pretty clear on the cable situation now, thanks. So a distro box as described would be an 'install' rather than and 'appliance' so it needs commissioning rather than PATing. Lots of friends in the...

Distribution box from 32amp generator supply?

I'll definitely look into dropping down to 16A connectors. So, the CU I suggested in the previous post, which has a 30mA RCD with 2x 16A MCBs and add a 2gang 13A socket to each 16A circuit? 2.5mm2 household cable internally? 6mm2 external supply cable?

Distribution box from 32amp generator supply?

Hehe, a relevant point well put. I, however am not mass producing a unit for sale to the public. I am striving to design and build a bespoke unit which is safe and 'fit for purpose'. I also have a PAT man who a) suggested this in the first place, and b) will check and test the unit and certify...

Distribution box from 32amp generator supply?

Thanks ericmark, good info. You managed to post while I was typing my last post. BTW not retired, just changed career (thrice!)(Time served, with lots of time with the maintenance guys) Good to hear the generator has requirements too - as I said, that's out of our hands though. Also good...

Distribution box from 32amp generator supply?

LOL, I can tell the ex-engineer status is causing humour, understandably. Mechanical engineer that is, but with obligatory elec experience and an ability and willingness to learn and understand, that's why I'm asking. :) OK, some background. We were advised to buy this 6mm cable at our first...

Distribution box from 32amp generator supply?

Hi all, I run a small event marquee which has recently been bumped up to a 32 amp requirement by the addition of an electric urn. I need to distribute the power around the marquee but being an ex engineer I would rather make a PATable distro box than blow £200ish off the shelf. During...
