    floorboards run under stud wall

Hi all, I need to replace my floorboards in my spare room, unfortunaltely I now realises that they run into the bathroom and do not stop at the stud wall. There are two joists on either side of the stud wall. Any ideas? bearing in mind I've bought new floorboards cut to the length of the...

cable in cavity on external wall?Channel in brick or capping

Looks like I should use protective channeling then which I believe is about 8mm deep and 25mm wide. That's the stuff that the electrician seemed to have used on the other sockets. I just wondered about the cavity as I had built the wall back up and could gain access easily. One question the...

cable in cavity on external wall?Channel in brick or capping

Hi all I've pulled down a chimney flue on an external wall and rebuilt in brick with a knockout box in situ for power. I've chipped off all the plaster from the wall as it looked shocking. **My question is do I route the cable up to the knockout box on top of the brick work and plaster over...

    Flue (tied in bricks)

Thanks for the reply, I'll take some more pics tonight with a camera that works. If the bricks are tied in to the exterior wall, wouldn't I see that from the outside of the house. I couldn't see any evidence (as in short looking brick, long looking brick formation)

    Flue (tied in bricks)

In my spare room, I've got what I think was a flue for an old cooker. Like a mini chimney breast. There is nothing downstairs in the kitchen and the breast didn't go up to anything in the loft. Anyway I've started removing the thing but have come into tied in bricks these look like they are...

    Bye Bye Polystyrene Coving?

Hi, Removed some of that horrible polystyrene coving off my kitchen ceiling. Don't really fancy replacing the stuff. I'm looking at painting the walls and ceiling soon but am scared that the edges of the ceiling might not look too great. Sanded and scraped them to try and get rid of any...

Thankyou for the info. It's been quite helpfull I had read about another product called Arditex (universal sub flooring compound) but I'll probably try this f ball stuff out. Any ideas on cleaning the floor. Just soap and water or should I use anything stronger?

    Bitumen/Asphalt floor over concrete.

Hi all now I have established what my floor is I'd like to attempt to level it for my laminate i n my 1930's ex council house. My first idea was to double up on underlay where it was at it's deepest but I'm not sure that's a good idea?? Secondly I wanted to look at self levelling. I've had...

Thick uniform black layer on kitchen floor??

Hi Flooringman thanks for the info. I've got a tile loc laminate floor from B&Q that I wanted to put down. However I bumped into a raised part of the floor on closer inspection that I don't think will mix well with laminate. I'm ripping up the green tiles in order to see what's underneath...
