Engineer been - valve fitted, everything working fine now! Phew!
Just seen another one of those valves on ebay for £350! They must be like gold dust!
Thanks everyone for all your advice.
Thanks.
But it is a K9049, which is the valve that appears to fit the glow worm 38 CF, so it should be alright, I would think?
Anyway, I'll find out when British Gas arrive this afternoon!
Right, the new gas valve has arrived - slightly different to the one advertised (he had 2 for sale). The screws on the right on the original for connecting the 2 wires are at the bottom instead of on the top.
Can anyone conform that it's still a viable replacement for the original one.

Here's a better photo of the 'broken' valve...as you can see it differs 'cosmetically' from the one I've purchased on ebay, in that there is less 'blue plastic' on the new one.

Just said that the gas valve had gone. That was all. This means that it's not safe.
Here's a photo of mine - it's not 100% the same as the blue is less on the new one.

many thanks for your reply.
He claims that the valve could've gone at any time given the age of the boiler. It was pure coincidence - he says.
So he has capped the supply, and left us without any gas to heat the water/heating etc.
He says that the valve for the boiler is now...
British Gas came to service my boiler on annual contract - when he left, he had broken it - tells me the gas valve has gone, even though it had been working perfectly well up until yesterday!
So - I think I've found a new one here - does anyone here know if this will fit the bill?
Any...
