    buildng a meter cupboard

not trying to be a total a*se but the missing blanks and the unclipped main earth and meter tails are class one fails (IMO) (sorry just read your post regarding the blanks, i apologise) The emergency light is a good idea, if you don't want to go that far i often fit a separate circuit to...

Wiring to a shed or separate garage

Zs is fine mate but it includes your bonding which will artificially drag the scores down Thats why you test Ze as well right i'm off to bed...talking about work at 12.30 is just nonsense!!!!

    Becoming an electrician

Personally i think if you are aiming at the domestic market then a part p qualification is a must. 2391 gets really bad press as being very hard but personally i think its a wicked course that gives you a brief overview of testing. We put one of our lads through a 6 week part p course...

Wiring to a shed or separate garage

use your tester set to measure earth fault loop impedance (EFLI) when you measure EFLI of the original impedance you'll get a feel if adding the extra cable etc is going to send it over the limits for the MCB. When you retest the new installation you'll be testing the resistance of everything...

Wiring to a shed or separate garage

Unless the original installation's Ze is sky high you'd be surprised how low the Ze of the additional installation comes in at. For the DIYers just lob some cable in...it'll be ok :D Sorry been a long week!!!!

    Consumer units

I can't wait for the B&Q guide to fitting them!!! Did you write a billion letters to the IEE for the 17th edition? :D I don't mean to take the p*ss its just i read a few threads and saw you mention them loads.... i suspect its been mentioned before!!!!!

    MWC or EIC?

Personally i'd issue a MWC and a covering letter regarding why the change was made. I'd also note that a full PIR might be advised due to the DIY nature of the electrical installation. But then i love paperwork!!!!

    B&Q Selling Consumer units

I don't understand why we aren't pressing for some kind of official standard that is clearly shown to customers. I don't know if maybe i'm cursed or something but the amount of shocking (no pun intended) DIY efforts i see is beyond belief. Last week i went to a job where the home owner...

    B&Q Selling Consumer units

Yeah you have a point. It also makes clear how poorly the government has put the part p message across. A part of me kinda wants to see the kitchen fitter change a consumer unit with the tails still live though.....

    B&Q Selling Consumer units

I'm sorry but this just drives me insane.... In the last week i've had 2 instances that have just made me go totally mental.... I was in B&Q desperately looking for a SW/FCU as like an idiot i'd run out and needed one for a job... To say this place was in the middle of nowhere is an...
