    All sorted now - It was a case of connecting the 2 remaining black wires together in a separate connection block then connecting 1 red into the loop and 1 into the neutral - and walaa - job done!     Kind of difficult to know the exact correct wordings unless you take a keen interest or deal in sparks - Evidently neither of which I do. So its a 3 gang light switch?

    The old gentleman seems to think that the remaining 2 black wires were connected together separately from the ceiling rose and that the 2 red wires that accompany the black ones were then connected somehow into the ceiling rose - could this be a possibility and if so how would that work?

    The wires that are connected into the ceiling rose are the ones that Ive so far figured out and connected up - these work as they should - the 2 remaining cables coming through the ceiling which are currently unconnected are for the 3rd light - I'm unsure of how to connect these wires up to work...

    Well you certainly know a lot me than me, I'm just a simple bricky/plasterer - as far as plumbing goes, I just learn from my mistakes (of which there's been plenty) - at the rate I'm going I'll know enough to be a fully qualified plumber in a few months :)
