  • Hi Chris

Laguna's are renowned for it. 99.99% certain its a Garrett and you can pick one up from Ebay for between 350-400. You don't need gaskets or anything but it is an awkward swine to get at (well, my spade sized hands struggled but did it eventually!)

When you do it pour some oil into the oil feeds and make sure it goes right through. The spindle floats on the oil and if you don't do this first there's a chance you will damage it.

Also clear out all of the pipework that goes to your turbo as when it blows the oil gets loose and will be right through the system. Did it blow at high speed or just pulling away from lights sort of thing (like mine did)? If it was at high speed you may need to strip the intercooler as well as there could be oil in there. Renault quoted for doing this as well and asked for £1700 in total! I got away without doing mine - but there is a bit of a price to pay!

When you start the engine after fitting the new turbo, leave it on tickover for about 10 minutes. The fitting instructions that came with the turbo said 2-3 minutes but my mate is an ex renault mechanic and said leave it 10 minutes then run it for a minute at 500rpm faster, slowly increasing it up to 3000 rpm. This is where the price begins!!!

You will get absolute hell if anyone has got washing out cos the smoke that will come out is unbelievable. Don't worry, its normal. Its just burning off the excess stuff thats left from when the old turbo blew. My advice is run it to 3000 revs then take it out to the middle of nowhere, at low revs, then where it won't bother anyone drive up and down (motorway in the middle of th night did mine!) and the smoke will look like a James Bond smokescreen!

It lasts for about half hour but it does clear up. You may get a bit of risidal smoiking for a couple of weeks but it should be very minor and only when you open the revs up over 2500.

One other thing to remember to do is to clean the EGR valve.

If you need advice on how to do all of these things try WWW.RENAULTFORUMS.CO.UK

If you still need advice drop me another email and I'll try :)

    Good luck mate!
