Just thought I'd update the post, thanks for the advice. Successfully disconnected the supply and stripped the garage out of all cable/fittings on Saturday.
Thanks, on that note the cable takes quite a convaluted route through the house from the consumer unit and out of the house on the first floor. If I disconnect that supply cable at the garage end and coil it up, bag it and leave it hanging where it exits the first floor of the house is there...
Hopefully a quick sanity check question!
My garage has power going to it from main fuse box in the house (an overhead cable going to a mini fuse box in the garage).
The garage is on it's own RCD switch on the main house fuse box but also has a fused switch next to the fuse box which the...
It sounded dodgy when my wife told me but didn't want to jump the gun without doing my own research. I am going to let him waste his letterhead sending me the quote in writing though
No chance he'll be doing the job.
why would he want to take more away than he has to? He has quoted a fixed price not dependant on tonnage/quantity?
Just trying to work out what his motivation is.....?
Want to have our detached brick built garage demolished (before it falls down!). Guy came round to quote demolising and removing brick/spoil but said that he would have to also remove the concrete slab/foundation due to "the regs".
My wife informs me it didn't sound like sales patter so that...
Thanks for that masona - the B&Q ones are bit too B&Q for my liking
I have found http://www.distinctivedoors.co.uk/ (albeit through Google) and their prices are a lot higher than B&Q but the choice is quite impressive. Some of their Oak and Pitched Pine 'look' like just what I could...
Did a search and couldn't find any recommendations for suppliers? Have googled but am always sceptical of the 'paid for' results. I am looking for either oak/pitch pine four panel internal doors - top two panels being glazed (either pre-glazed or 'to be glazed').
There are quite a few firms...
I actually bought a scorer made for the job by Stanley - it has 6 toothed wheels that when you roll it over the surface makes pin prick holes in the surface - very quick and easy to go over the area you want to strip before steaming and the steam penetrates a lot quicker than with straight blade...
Tex - the fireplace will be open but not used - I intend on putting some shelves in the fireplace to hold my AV equipment (Amp, DVD, Sky+) as I have a plasma Tv to mount above it (the bottom of the plasma mount is actually in shot).
At the moment I have a huge wedge of foam up the chimney...
I had fun on Saturday angle grinding channels for some speaker cable I wanted buried. The fireplace used to have a gas fire in and when I removed it and the lovely floor tiles that had been put on the wall as a 'surround' this is the surface I am left with - a kind of hotch potch of various...
£1600 sounds great if you are getting the job done, tested and certified. I haven't got my invoice in yet but I am expecting just over £2.5k for my re-wire by an NICEIC approved firm - same as your, 3 bed house and garage/shed but down south in High Wycombe.
TexMex - a wuzzock indeed, probably one of the nicer things I have been called over the years
masona - cheers for the product advice - will look at those now. I think after chatting with my wife we may line the ceilings anyway - she's not confident of them looking that great unless...
Still psyching myself up to tackle this whilst the electricians are in re-wiring - somebody can step in and offer some valuable advice whilst they still have the chance  !
