    Is my electricity being stolen?

That's a private card meter metering the flat's usage. I'd ask the letting agent where the cards come from... You can't top one of those up at a shop, and the money doesn't go to the electricity company. I've had these in a couple of rented industrial units where it's easier for the landlord to...

Solid red light on electricity meter?

Apparently it's so you can see if the meter is being bypassed - if you walk in and see there's a solid red light and it's obvious there's electricity being used then you know there's something not right... Same with 'private' card meters. Ours in our storage unit used to go solid red if not...

    cctv cable routing

One thing we've done on ours is to disable all the audible alarms - it's hidden quite well so unlikely to be found. Unless of course the toerags cut the cable and it starts to make a noise to help find it!

    Service Head Query

Some time ago, nPower came round to change the meter (not sure why, possibly just due to the age of it). The chap said he couldn't do it because of the type of our service head. We've changed to Southern Electric now, and nothing has been said about changing the meter since. I've attatched a...

    A bit of bondage!

There must be something wrong with the flex in my house. I can quite easily grip it - tight enough so it cannot be slipped through my fingers. Presumably I have a different sort of electricity...

wiring a German cooker into a UK home

Ummm....surely if wired single phase then the neutral would be the same size as the live, and therefore would handle what was supplied to the cooker? If the neutral is undersized then so is the live...and that's where the fuse/MCB comes in isn't it Adam?

All this on a double socket?

Matty...is this something that requires a 32A ceeform or similar connection? ie. Are the 2 plugs connected together at some point (both in parallel). If so...STOP USING IT. It's called a widdowmaker for a reason(!). If one of those sockets were to be unplugged and the other one was live then...

    Re: Granny Flat

DNO - the people who own the supply network to your house. Having asked these questions, and mentioning henley blocks, are you going to be installing this? If so, can you let us know where you live - I've got some marshmallows that need toasting.

    fused isolating switches

Actually Bondy, the last time I saw appliances fitted with 15A roundpin plugs was...this morning. Neither myself, nor and of the others around found this odd. Hmm...so 99% of people don't have/have never seen shaver sockets? Thats a different type of socket outlet. And why exactly would they...

WHat are all the funny words for?

The random text at the end of the e-mail is to try and increase the e-mails chances of defeating content based spam filters - with this text, there is a high proportion of "non spam" text - which will in effect cancel out the spam message. However, much of the time this text is in white. I've...

My recent Project... I built it myself!!

And iirc, when they sit on a power line, they are only sitting on either a phase or neutral, and therefore aren't linking the two - and therefore not part of the circuit.

My recent Project... I built it myself!!

The Anarchists Cookbook includes instructions on bomb making, and other dubious practices. Do you do those as projects as well? The internet is a free space. I could publish a professional looking site that says its safe to put two fingers in a 63A ceeform outlet. Would you try that? Not...
