Altech 3 port valve (Model ALTHC011)

Open coal fire heating water and the radiators. Fitted is an Altech mid position 3 port valve. Trouble started 3 days ago when water was overheating, then being forced around the radiators, although at times the radiators were cold. Examining the 3 port valve I have found that the lever is...

    CH- airlock in pipes.

I have finally restored the central heating to normal. One important fact I learned yesterday is that before attempting to remove an airlock in the pipes, allow the water to cool right down. I had been attemtping to remove the air and balance the radiators whilst the water was still HOT...

    CH- airlock in pipes.

Masonary Paint - Sandtex, etc. V. Toolstation Trade paints.

Are Toolstation trade paints as good as the better known paint names ? I have done a brief search in DIYnot, and gather that Sandtex, Dulux Weathershield, and Leyland Truguard, are some of the better masonary paints. But are other masonary paints supplied by Toolstation (& Screwfix) just as...

    Masonry Paint peeling off

GaryG2013, I am no expert re this, but it seems to be only due to ageing. My walls, which have not been painted for over 10 years, are showing the same 'symptons'. The only way is to scrape off all the loose paint, and then repaint. Previously the house had been repainted by professionals...

BPS access solutions. Anyone used them ?

Scaffold tower arrived this morning, - 2 days late, and it appears that the delay has been due to the carrier/freight firm. I searched the internet yesterday afternoon re BPS Access Solutions, and there is nothing but praise for them. Not one complaint did I find. I will just have to put the...

I have ordered a 5 metre aluminium scaffold tower from them. They guarantee next day delivery. I ordered Monday afternoon, and was informed it would be dispatched on Tuesday, for delivery on Wednesday. Today, Thursday, still nothing has arrived. I have even tried checking with the freight...

    Blocked drains/sewer.

foxhole, and big-all, Thanks for your suggestions. As regards neighbours I will leave that for the time being. And, yes, Yorkshire Water did it without charge. I think that the cause is persons are putting things down the toilet which should not be flushed away. There is no soil or similar...

    Blocked drains/sewer.

Yes, it looks like becoming a frequent problem for me, but I hope not. Yorkshire Water employee yesterday, confirmed that facial tissues are becoming a big nuisance, and told me that idiots are also flushing cat litter down their toilets - result - it swells in contact with water, causing blockages.

Scaffold tower DIY. What height platform ?

I intend buying a DIY scaffold tower, for painting the outside of the house. The roof gutter height is only 16 feet. I am 5'9" tall so I am assuming a tower with a platform height of 12 feet (at the most) will be adequate. Looking for confirmation or otherwise.

    Blocked drains/sewer.

Is this becoming a frequent problem ? Our drain/sewer was blocked to within 1" of the manhole cover in July, this year. I manged to free it eventually. In amongst everything there were whole broad beans, and white paper squares, which I am told are facial tissues, which do not disintegrate...

    Mains stop cock.

All's well that ends well. Similar to your predicament, Honda, Yorkshire Water eventually returned this Wed. The outside stop cock was opened up, and brown sandy sediment ran through the kitchen tap for 11 mins. He suspected that was a result of the mains water pipes being replaced about 2...
