    Fusebox/RCD fault

I didn't watch everything he did. He was there nearly 3 hours. Did a lot of remedial work on most sockets where the Earth was connected to the backbox rather than the socket itself. Separated some old wires that had been touching. After replacing the the RCD he carried on testing, including...

    Fusebox/RCD fault

UPDATE: OK, had competent scheme electrician round - he tested the CU - no joy, then opened up every socket in the flat to test - still no joy. He tested the socket-circuit by connecting with the other existing RCD on the CU (the existing light circuit) - still tripped. Changed the RCD entirely...

    Fusebox/RCD fault

Checked it all. We've had no problems and no work done and yesterday just went off! The only incident I can think of was an old toaster that tripped the RCD about 3 weeks ago. Got rid of toaster, got a new one, and everything has been fine since.

    Fusebox/RCD fault

No, no work on flat in the last year. Boiler is on a plug. Sounds like a big job, at least in terms of lifting carpet and floorboards. sigh. Thanks for your help!

    Fusebox/RCD fault

There are only 2 ring circuits in the flat - lights and sockets. The CU has room for 2 sets of 2 circuits protected by an RCD each. The lights are on one set (with an unused spare) and sockets on other set (also with an unused spare). I hope this makes sense! Only the socket one trips it's RCD

    Fusebox/RCD fault

Afternoon all, I have a strange issue with my consumer unit that I would appreciate advice on. My CU tripped yesterday morning on the socket ring circuit (the light circuit is working fine). I unplugged every socket but when i try to switch the socket ring back on at the consumer unit it...

VeKa composite front door - struggling to close

Thanks everyone, The problem is now sorted and for your time it is only right I would update you all on the eventual fix. Seems like poor initial installation. The hinges were adjustable with a hex/allen key but they had been adjusted already to the maximum. The solution was removing the...

VeKa composite front door - struggling to close

The door itself is tight - it catches mostly at the top when closing - clipping the frame. Lifting the handle is mostly fine though it needs a slight push/tug to line up the security bolts as the door sticks out a bit (see pics). In answer to the questions: - The gap around the door frame is...

VeKa composite front door - struggling to close

Hello, I had a Veka composite front door fitted just under 3 years ago. It is a front door with 2 side panels (with windows). All came as a Veka package from installer (i saw the labels so know it is genuine). The door was a tight fit to start and was told it would 'loosen up'. Now, a couple...

Hi, Grateful for help! I am installing a new kitchen including an integrated fridge freezer (FF). The housing cabinet for the FF is concerning me because it is just that - a cabinet - there are no ventilation holes, there is a back (50cm deep with 7cm on the other side between the back and...

Do socket faceplates have to connect flush to backbox?

Phew - great. I don't know why I thought not - which is why i panicked and asked! I guess every other time i have seen it, the backboxes were cut in after skimming and cables chased in then filled/bonded. And each time it ended up being flush with the skim. I was only concerned about...

Do socket faceplates have to connect flush to backbox?

Hello all, I am doing some work in the kitchen and upgrading the electrics at the same time. The electrician is currently chasing in cables for new sockets. I am a little concerned because he has just put the backboxes and cables in for 1st fix before builders skim and put kitchen in...

integrated cooker hood at risk when using hob

Hi, Maybe a silly question but here goes: i am about to put in a new kitchen extractor and would like an integrated hood that blends with the wall cabinets. I am concerned however, that when i use the front gas hobs, it could damage the hood cupboard (if i do not open it). Can this...
