Brown will be your live Blue your neutral and orange the interconnect between the two. Normally fed off of the lighting circuit but should ideally be on their own circuit.

If tested properly the values should be roughly the same all the way round .05 ohms variation I think is allowed. The only increases you should see are those from a spur which will be slightly higher

If a ring the values should not increase towards the mid point

Scantronic 9448+ or ade optima are both a doddle to wire and have plenty of features for what your after. Such as panic alarm, chime extra internal sounder etc. Any good wholesaler will stock them and I recommend a texecom oddessy 1 or 3 to go with whichever panel you decide upon...
