I laid a patio towards the end of last summer and some of the slabs have started to crumble and crack around the edges. I'm guessing frost may have got in? Could this be true? I didn't fill between the gaps. Would filling in with sand/cement stop any further cracking etc? Thanks for looking.

I have a gas fire and would like to have some stone floor tiles in front of it instead of buying a hearth. Is this OK? Would they be heat resisitant enough?
