Just disconnected the earth from the motor and it works. So does this mean there is a fault with the earth wiring or something else? Thanks in advance

I went to put my washing machine on and it has tripped the main fuse box but not the fuse on the plug. It trips the fuse when I shut the door, all lights on and working before I shut the door. I have tried another socket but it still does it. Any ideas?
