The water pipes rattle and vibrate at the far end of our house (garage and apartment above garage) when water (hot and cold) is shut off in the main part of the house. What could cause that? Any suggestions for remedy? Joe

When hot & cold water is turned off in the house the pipes in the garage and apartment over the garage rattle/vibrate. The house was built in 1973. Original homeowner redirected the water coming into the garage so that he could install water softner in the garage. Could this be the problem...
