Tiles cemented to breeze block. Big hole to mend

Thanks Ree Travis Perkins sell 75mm 'aerated blocks' which look like they'll do the job - is that what you mean by thermal block? I've got some cementone rapid cement in the shed - can I get away with using that? Or has it got to be mortar (Travis only sell 20kg bags!) Cheers Jim

Tiles cemented to breeze block. Big hole to mend

Ok the next photo shows the damage to the wall. As I said, the block has crumbled and I have a hole through to the bedroom (can you see the mattress?). I had no idea the breeze blocks were so thin - cant be more 2" thick, and each tile takes half an inch with it. So no kango drills or...

Tiles cemented to breeze block. Big hole to mend

Hi I am in the process of re-tiling the bath room, and have found 2 rows of old tiles underneath the existing ones which I need to remove. Trouble is, the old tiles have been cemented (not grouted) directly onto breeze blocks, and they are impossible to remove without taking the cement and...

CH pump runs in middle of night (Worcester 24Si II)

Hi Thanks for the quick reply. Didn't know there was an anti-seize feature. Sounds like that might be the answer, as it seems to happen at the same time every night, which was what made me look closely at the timer. So if I understand correctly, I could offset the antisieze routine...

CH pump runs in middle of night (Worcester 24Si II)

Hi For the last few months we have an intermittent fault/niggle with our Worcester 24Si II combi boiler - the central heating pump starts up in the middle of the night, runs for a few minutes, then stops. Other than this, the boiler works fine, but its an annoyance as it wakes us up every...

Turned CH on last night - now nothing works

Jesus you guys are helpful 'Sounds like something has failed' No sh*t Sherlock! I've spent the day trying to get a heating engineer to answer their phone. Plan B is for someone on this forum to say 'it's your thermistor' (thankyou Red_Man), then I go and test it, buy one, and fit it...

Turned CH on last night - now nothing works

Hi I have a Worcester 24SiII combi boiler. Hot water (HW) has been working fine all summer. Turned the Central Heating (CH) on last night - radiators warmed up, but Lockout light flashing on panel. Turned it off immediately. I read the manual in bed last night (yawn), and this morning reset...

    Smell of gas from flue

OK, boiler turned off at the wall!! Anyone got any ideas as to what is causing this? When I smelt gas, the boiler wasn't in its purge cycle. That says to me that the flame must have extinguished for some reason, rather than not lighting in the first place. Could this be a dodgy...

    Smell of gas from flue

Tonight I came home to a cold house- when I checked the central heating (Potterton Prima F) the timer was calling for heating and hot water, and the exhaust fan was running, but the flame was extinguished. When I checked outside, there was a strong smell of gas coming from the flue. I turned...

    Central heating pump runs constantly

Oilman The motorised valve seems to be working OK: it is a mid position type, and there is a position indicator on the side marked W / M / H (presumably water /mid / heating?). With the controller set to hot water only, the indicator moves to W. If I manually move the valve to the...

    Central heating pump runs constantly

Thanks for your help I checked the pump wiring straight away- it doesnt seem to be wired up as per the wiring diagram in the inside of the cover. That said, all the engineer did was remove the old pump and replace it, so he shouldn't have altered any connections in the junction box. I dont...

    Central heating pump runs constantly

Last week my Potterton Prima 30F central heating boiler blew the main fuse. I didnt have a spare 3 Amp fuse, so fitted a 5 Amp, which also blew. I then called out a a local heating engineer who traced the problem to a faulty pump, which he replaced (and chargerd me £200!) Since the repair...
