About to fit a top hung Velux type roof window and wanted to know the minimum size the window can be but still conform to building regs. The window will be the only window in the bedroom of a dormer bungalow on the first floor and so will be the sole means of escape in a fire etc.

The lintel only seems to catch about 1/3 of the outer brick leaving 2/3 exposed. At first i thought there was no lintel!! have you ever seen this?
I'm ssuming your can just cement the piers to the existing brickwork !?!
With regards the original ceiling joists that are staying in place, ceiling hangers have been removed so would these ceiling joists need to be secured to the new floor joists? The ceiling joists are 3x2 and span around 3.2m??

1. 1x large Lounge oblong window we want to split into 3 smaller windows again with brick pillar divides but depth of window increased so it is from floor to ceiling in height?

I was thinking along those line too. My main concern was getting the hanger at the right height, ie not touching the top of my downstairs ceiling and the same height as my other joists. So I think the timber hangers may be better suited.....
