Can I bump this as the smell is so strong and I don't know what to do. Shall I get a builder to come and have a look or should I ask an electrician? Thanks for any help.

I have put my nose up against the hole and it doesn't smell stronger . It smells the strongest when you just open the door to the cupboard and get that first whiff of the air in there, once the door is open it isn't so bad. I can smell it through the door and out in the hall.

It is regularly when the heating fires up, just one or two thuds in the pipes so does not sound to me like expansion.
