Help choosing and fitting doors in garden room

Hi all, I've been building a garden room over the summer, using a timber frame on concrete piers. This was because of size of the room (6.5 x 5m) and also access (a long garden) making it difficult to pour a solid concrete base. Anyway, all going pretty well but I want to fit some bifolds...

Underfloor heating on top of timber floor..?

Hi, I'm in the middle of a sizeable extension / renovation project, and most of our house has standard timber floorboards (30s semi-detached). Builder was going to put wet underfloor heating under the new extension and suggested we do the rest of the ground floor, but he's suggested we put it...

    Foundations for garden building

That sounds like a good approach. I'm not overly concerned with appearance as they shouldn't be visible once finished anyway, but the way you've done it sounds great. I think I'll make the piers myself in the way you've done yours, then maybe add these (...

    Foundations for garden building

@theprinceofdarkness: It's a garden room rather than a shed. So a mix of home office / gym equipment. I was intending to build the joists off the wooden base frame so that it would be fixed? @jeds: I saw the Swift plinth system, but it was coming in at around £1100 for the size I need! I...

    Foundations for garden building

Hi, I've seen numerous opinions on this, but still not sure which way to go. I'm going to build a garden room at the end of my garden - 7m x 5m. I know many recommend a full concrete slab as a base, but it's not practical in terms of either making it or the cost. It's 120 feet from the house...

    Plywood and "off-gassing"

Thanks for the info. I'd read something along these lines online, but would I be able to specify this kind of detail with a timber merchant or would I get laughed out of the door? I have a Lathams nearby, which I've heard recommendations for before, so I might give them a call.

    Plywood and "off-gassing"

Hi all, I'm building a bed for my daughter, similar to this: https://www.rhbabyandchild.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=rhbc_prod482278&categoryId=rhbc_cat206019 I was planning to make the sides with plywood panels, but given that it's for my daughter's bed, I'm a bit concerned with...

Securing a shed to the ground

Cheers for the responses. I've got young kids so don't want to take any chances. This thing is made from a load of 3x2, will be full of bikes (hung vertically) and will hopefully be clad board and batten with 1cm thick timber, so it'll weigh a fair bit. I don't want any chance of it toppling...

Securing a shed to the ground

Sorry, this needs a few sentences of explanation so bear with me... I'm building a shed from scratch, but it's quite tall (around 7 feet) and narrow from front to back (maybe 3 feet) as it's going to be at the side edge of our patio, and will store bikes vertically. We'll be changing the patio...

Carpet being fitted Thursday, still waiting for skirting...

Is there no other way? We have people coming to stay on Friday night, nowhere else for them to stay other than that room. Obviously it's more important for the long term, but thought there might be some other way to get the job done.

Carpet being fitted Thursday, still waiting for skirting...

As above really. I've ripped out skirting in a bedroom in preparation for replacing before having carpet fitted. Turns out the skirting delivery is delayed, and despite their repeated - and repeatedly failed - promises of delivery, I'm assuming it's not going to be there when the carpet gets...

Bedroom floor: Chipboard flooring or plywood?

Thanks JohnD, I see your point about not taking weight too well. In that case, with likely heavy furniture in a bedroom I may go for the extra cost of ply then. Gerald - some of it was our plumber, fitting new central heating pipes, so yes, good point, I need to mark those areas and make them...

Bedroom floor: Chipboard flooring or plywood?

I could stretch to buying ply if I had to, and if it's going to make a significant difference. This is the key thing to me though. If I screw and glue chipboard, then will I notice any difference down the line from using plywood? I'd like to save the cash if I can as the bedroom is in an...

Bedroom floor: Chipboard flooring or plywood?

Thanks for the reply. It seems the only reason we have squeaks at the moment is because it looks like the bottom of a biscuit barrel - it's been cut and put back down all over the place at different times! On the other hand, would rather use ply than have problems with it squeaking again...
