I,m going to re felt my roof.Why is it essential to remove the old felt? Would it not be better to leave it on,creating a double seal? Please correct me if I'm talking rubbish.

thanks for your reply, I'm not a roofer, the original felt is worn but not disintegrating.Boards seem OK .I presume the new felt needs to be applied using heat and bitumen. thanks, keith
