Hi, I've recently bought a new house and taken on a total renovation of the place. Don't have a lot of budget left but would like to do something about two of the windows. The house has part d/g and two of the units are blown - small hole in outer pane of downstairs lounge window and...

    Leaking Basin

Havinh a moan as much as asking a question . . . I've completely renovated my house and plumbing wise have done quite well: 2 toilets replaced, bath replaced, thermostatic shower added (with hidden pipework) Kitchen sink replaced, dishwasher and washing machine lubed in etc etc. . ...

    Tiling Warning

I'm sure most of you know this already, but I've just found out the hard way. . . I've been tiling my bathroom, set out and fixed the main field - no problem, looks good. :D On Saturday I did the edge/cut tiles. Measured each one and numbered them on the back with felt tip pen before...

Wire wool / rust in water

Just replaced basin in bathroom - got some wire wool debris inside hot and cold water pipes which is showing as a little bit of rusty water when taps are first turned on. Will this flush itself out with time or do I need to do something about it?? Thanks  Maceman

    Restoring fireplace

I'm attempting to restore an open fireplace in a 1940's brick/block semi. The constructional hearth and back hearth are still in place. There is a liner in the chimney, but it is for an old gas fire/back boiler. My intention is to have a simple fireplace with a firebasket on the back...

    Wireless heating controls

I've got a worcester greenstar 30si and it has wireless controls + trv's - I can recommend it. Not sure if you could use those controls for your boiler or not? I'm no plumber, but I know I like my new boiler! :)

    Bathroom sink waste pipe

I'm fitting a new bathroom and I'm moving the sink 10 inches along the wall. I need to install a new waste pipe so that it is behind the pedestal. Can anyone advise the best method/tools for drilling through the wall? (Wall is block cavity) Thanks! Maceman

    Bath fixings/anchors

Did the plumber fill the bath with water before sealing it? You need to seal it when it's full so that it beds down under the weight of the water. Don't know if this helps???

    Should I raise toilet??

I'm fitting a new close coupled toilet. The toilet outlet is lower than the waste pipe on the wall. I tried a felxible connecter but it leaves the toilet too far from the wall. The outlet has to sit in the waste pipe for the cistern to be against the wall. Toilet outlet is horizontal and...

    Bath fixings/anchors

Thanks Welshman! I was going to build a timber frame for the panel anyway. . . Good to know that that shoudl keep it still - I had visions of the silicone seal breaking along teh wall edge! Have just also bought some right angle brackets, so might try to bolt them to the legs and...

    Bath fixings/anchors

I wonder if anyone has any ideas? Just bought a bath (budget price) and I'm fitting it myself. I'm happy enough doing the plumbing, but bit confused as to how to anchor the bath. It comes with legs, but not a whole frame so there is nowhere to attach to wall. There are two metal...

I have a friend who is going to come and stay with us and replaster the whole house after plumbing is done, but I have one chase that needs to be done before the plumber comes...

    Worcester boilers

Thanks Chrishut - that looks good to me! I checked the 28i junior on the same site and there seems to be very little difference in terms of functions and capability - I think the 30si is designed to cope with a biiger workload. Doesn't seem to be much on the price either. Maceman

    PME

Nothing is ever straight forward!!! I think this is going to be more of an issue than I first thought. I think the first step is to go and talk to the neighbour and see if they know what sort of system they have. I think they have also been renovating recently, so maybe they will have...
