Current lead times for building work?

Thank you ETAF but I think the story will probably be different for the sort of building firm that's able to do a complete barn conversion working with an architect. I haven't spoken to an architect yet, this is all very early days and I just want a feeling for timescale at this stage.

Current lead times for building work?

Even I know that there have been endless obstacles for builders in the past few years - labour shortages, materials delays, fuel costs and now interest rates sky high, I don't know how they affect the trade and I just want a very rough idea of how long it might be between accepting a quote and...

Job's a good 'un. Thanks for your help, I used a V33WM and the job is done and dusted.

    washing machine drain standpipe

Thank you Hugh, I did not know that you can use a hose clip to connect it onto a plastic pipe. The V33WM is probably going to be the way forward.

    washing machine drain standpipe

Thank you all. Doogle, that's the one I found but I hoped for something simpler - the two hoses will have to be properly connected in with this one. As a complete amateur, I assumed that somebody would make a simple Y plastic insert I can just drop in! Terryplumb, I'll check that point out but...

    washing machine drain standpipe

A friend's brand new flat has plumbing for a washing machine in a walk-in hall cupboard. The drain hose simply hooks over the standpipe. He also needs to connect a condenser dryer into this standpipe, but nowhere can we find a simple plastic Y splitter to just drop onto the existing standpipe so...

A rated double glazing - is it a con?

Thank you so much for all that Pete. The rebates are very wide, fortunately, and it seems it'd be no problem at all. I'm keen to hear what the second firm tell me on Friday.

A rated double glazing - is it a con?

Difference between A rated and C rated windows- is really insignificant-- it's just a selling technique . I know !! ps- Hardwood windows will by far outlast any upvc window on the market . If fitted correctly of course ans the glass is fitted properly -ie: no butyl, putty or...

A rated double glazing - is it a con?

Thank you PhillCO2, I'm surprised how low was the cost difference between A & C and I've asked for a quote for A from the same company. The units are argon filled and have composite spacer bars, I've done as much homework as I can and I was set on A rated windows. However, the surveyor put a...

A rated double glazing - is it a con?

I am considering replacing the 20 year old timber framed double glazing in the kitchen/breakfast room extension to my Victorian semi. There are very large windows facing east and south and it gets the sun all day, but it's semi open plan to the sitting room and I nearly froze last winter. I'd...

    Combi boiler lifespan

 I didn't mean it like that, DP ... I was just imagining me, knowing absolutely nothing about boilers and central heating, trying to find a way tactfully to ask the engineer to service it according to the manual rather than the operational/FGA thingy. Let's face it, the more they take...

    Combi boiler lifespan

Thanks for the insight & good wishes. I will do that. Glad to know it's a good choice of boiler in theory.

    Combi boiler lifespan

Thank you, I'll make a note. I'll need to practice that one:- "Hello, I would like my boiler serviced please. Let theservice be as described in the manual as opposed to operational/ FGA redeading, which in most cases is window dressing only." "Very well, madam. It shall be just as you...

    Combi boiler lifespan

Hi, I'm the new girl and I need some general advice please. I'm in the process of buying a house with gas central heating and I've never had gas OR central heating before!! (My experience is limited to a 50 year old four-oven Aga still working perfectly but something tells me this might be...
