It is a push button valve & water is leaking out of the bottom of the cistern where it connects into the toilet bowl. Can I lift the whole thing out from above to have a look and replace any parts? Can't get underneath without removing the tiles/wooden frame boxing the cistern in!

Hi, you mentioned that most drop valves lift out by giving them a twist anticlockwise. I have a toilet that is boxed in making access a very difficult and messy job. So if I can remove the flushing mechanism without separating the toilet pan from the cistern that would be a great help. Would this be the case?
