    Moving Electric Meter.

I was quoted "about "£350" for this unless they need to replace or join any cable in the process in which case it was going to be "around £1000". My box stayed where it was!!!!!

    Combined MCB/RCD

If you shop around you can get MK RCBO at around £25-£30 trade/online. Other makes I assume can be bought for similar prices. This makes the price differance not so large as "list prices" would suggest. They offer a far better solution than the split board arrangement currently being...

    Meter removal

As regards cost of meter move :- I was given an informal estimate from my DNO on this This is to also move the service head rather than just the meter but they are required to be kept together by the DNO. £750 if cable length the same or shorter £1500 if cable length is longer (to pay...

    CU

using an RCBO on the non RCD side for other (upstairs) sockets and another for lighting is a good way to provide whole house protection without the problems associated with nuisance tripping if all are on the RCD side of the split board. Costs a little more but what price do you place on your...

    mk rcbo failure

Tested some of the RCBO's in my consumer unit today by pressing the test buttons. (we all do this every so often like we should , don't we  ) Anyway one of the units did not trip , started to arc (nasty buzzing) and acrid white smoke poured out around the flip switch. (2 hours...

    12 volt lighting

There is some truth in the statement that 12v lighting uses less power than 230volt mains lighting. 12volt lighting is more efficient than 230volt. technically 12volt produces more lumens per watt. For a fixed amount of light needed you get the same amount from smaller (lower wattage)...

DNO supplied isolator , only one pole used.

I asked for my DNO to fit an isolator between my meter and my consumer unit to avoid any need to get the supply fuse pulled when I have a new kitchen fitted in the summer. They put in a double pole switch in an enclosure. However only the live (phase) conductor goes to the switch (ie 1...

    Position of electricity meter

I would like to move my electricity meter due to an awkward cupboard position. The meter would move to the wall outside the cupboard but on the other side of a partition wall. The new partition wall is partly across the old cupboard. Distance from my requested position to the service...

    External garage electrical question.

You cannot just use an RCD to supply this as there is no overcurrent protection to the SWA cable other than the service fuse. Make the RCD an RCBO and you will provide both overcurrent and leakage protection. Generally a switchfuse to an RCD CU in the garage is a better method.

    Shower help req

Loads of Wylex MCB on eBay. Usually fairly cheap. Just make sure you buy from a rated seller. (and avoid the ones where the MCB has that dark brown crispy look .... ) If you intend to uprate the cable to the shower consider fitting an in line RCD. (you dont mention having one...

Consumer Unit to Supply final connection - who do I talk to?

I am having exactly the same problem , see my thread here titled "moving electricity meter" DNO is not service provider with me too. DNO and service provider both claim other is responsible for meter connection issues.

    Moving electricity meter

Scottish Power (The DNO) say they own everything up as far as the meter. Powergen own the meter (actually the strict truth is that the meter is leased to Powergen by Scottish Power who originally installed it) Scottish Power insist that a leased meter is the responsibility of whoever it is...

    Moving electricity meter

Powergen have again today stated that Scottish Power are the people to contact over this matter. Powergen have been offhand and unhelpful. I have had to listen to lots of on hold music from them that has led to little assistance (operators dont seem to know the answers to questions and put...

    Moving electricity meter

I used the reference to check the DNO Yes it is Scottish Power. I used the contact list to get back to Scottish Power. Yet another Scottish Power operator states catagorically. "Yes they are the DNO but they cannot move the meter as Powergen is my supplier" They gave me the Powergen...
