Sorry to PM you but I saw your post and wondered if the powerflush helped at all.
I had a Vaillant engineer (arranged through Homeserve insurance) come around to check out my boiler as it has started to rattle when the hot water came on. The engineer opened the system up, siphoned off some water which had black sludge in it and then removed the heat exchange. That also had some rubbish in it which he removed but he said the problem is likely to occur unless the system is powerflushed.
I've had a quote from a reliable plumber I know for about £400 but was wondering if it helped with your problem. Homeserve will only replace the heat exchange if I professionally powerflush the system.
