Thanks for the replies. It's sort of fixed at the moment - the overheat button had popped out. Pressed it back and everything is working again. It's worked fine up til now so not sure why it would cause the overheat button to pop out

The system is open vented with an f&e tank in attic, But when ever the central heating is turned on there is a loud bang (or knock) from the 3 way valve in the airing cupboard. But no noise at all when just hot water is selected. Any advice gratefully accepted. pete

combi valve is fine, there is a cold water take off just after the combi valve and flow & pressure is fine on all cold outlets. - Hot outlets are a different story though! I like the sound of the Aquavac

Thanks for the reply Gasforyou, while checking the condensate for blockages I noticed it was dripping constanty, even though the boiler had been turned off for 48 hours. Decided to phone Ideal who said it sounded like heat exchanger needs replacing. They said they can repair it for £210...

It does sound like you need someone to look at it. If you can smell burning then keep it all turned off and wait for the engineer. With a bit of luck it won't be a too expensive repair. regards pete

I agree with Heatingman. Houses on an estate near me have these valves, one pipe systems and when valve is shut flow still goes through valve body but not into the rad. rgds
