Earthing for Shed - disconnect house earth?

Thanks - guess what this means is back to calling in the guys who did it in the first place and getting them to check everything over! By the way, although accept all you say about needing to know more - re CU issue - at the time I was considering this, I thought the feed was a dedicated...

Earthing for Shed - disconnect house earth?

OH, and the MCB that feeds the socket is rated at 20A, which I feel ought to be 32A if it has a ring main in the house. If there is a spare space fora new MCB, would rather run new radial dedicated for the shed, but still need to know whether to terminate the earth at the outside of building...

Earthing for Shed - disconnect house earth?

Have called friend and from what he describes, I feel the outside socket must be taken as a spur already from a downstairs ring. Surely it isn't allowed for the SWA and shed to be running of this socket is it - surely that's too much to run of a spur in the first place? I thought you could only...

Earthing for Shed - disconnect house earth?

The SWa is 2.5mm, and yes the SWA comes from an external socket fed from the main house CU, so is effectively a spur I guess. Are you saying this can't have a consumer unit at the end of the spur, as this is what my own sheds have - a radial from CU, which then has an external socket which...

Earthing for Shed - disconnect house earth?

BSBS - can I just check - when you say TT, dooes this refert o the earth rod type of earhting? And by connecting to MET - although I don't have pipes, just out of interest, do you mean earth bonding pipes to the mini consumer unit earth terminal? In answer to suggestion about just using...

Earthing for Shed - disconnect house earth?

No, there are no pipes, etc in the shed at all. So, am I understanding you all correctly - you're saying that I can connect both the SWA protective sheathing and the earth cable into the earht connector in the outside socket and have the shed earhted through the shed? If so, do I need to...

Earthing for Shed - disconnect house earth?

Hi all, I am about to reconnect a friend's shed with a new waterproof MK consumer unit, as it just had SWA coming straight into white sockets before! I will be using a 40A 30ma switch and then 6am for lighting and 16 for sockets. Originally it was connected via the house earth - can I...

Power to new bedroom units with fitted downlighting

Hi - sounds strange set up, but if not on a ring main then could be either a) all radials coming from fuse box (unlikely if all in same room), or b) each one is a spur from somewhere else (again, doesn't sound likely). If they turn out to be radials from the main fuse box, then I believe you...

    cold electric shower

Hi - I put a Gainsborough in for a friend last year and when the unit didn't work, the number on the box gave me a direct line to Gainsborough support. They were excellent - sent a replacement part out straight away and the job was a good-un! Thereshouldn't be another fuse - will it still...

    Fitting 2nd Consumer Unit?

Hi - thanks for advice. I doubt the two showers would ever be run at the same time. My sister alreday has one in her son's room (older style electric which doesn't seem to have any sort of pump inbuilt) but wants a modern electric one in main bathroom. If didn't use at same time wqould this be...

    Fitting 2nd Consumer Unit?

Hi All - have had it suggested that 2 electric showers must not be installed on one CU as this would be too much, but that extra tails can be put into the Henly block and a 2ns CU installed to run the 2 shoers off, as apparantly this would not have either the original or the new CU overloaded...

Supply Earths and their differences !!!

In my experience if you only disconnect the live via the switch then you will cause a short when you cut through or touch the negative with the earth. Better to disconnect the earth as well, or negative, ands then you can do what you like on the circuit without tripping anything out

    Power for shower

Many thanks for a prompt reply ! Sorry for confusion - They described the existing shower as electric 9ie only cold feed and heats water) but with no kick to it and no sound of a pump, so I was imagining it to be an older style - it isn't in a box like most exlectric showers, it is fitted...

    Power for shower

Hi All I am installing a power shower for a friend, and am clear about needing RCBO of correctr ating in Consumer unit and approriate size wire for power of shower, but have following question: Can a house have two power showers installed or will the possible useage of power if both on at same...
