Internal Insulation of filled cavity wall

Hi Robinbanks. I had already sent info to the electrician who is doing a full rewire about my intentions and he should be back to me today on this. Obviously I will take his advice into account. Thanks.

Internal Insulation of filled cavity wall

On 2 of the walls I'm insulating there will be 6mm cables behind the insulation. I'm not sure about retaining sufficient clearance for them with dot & dab or expanding foam adhesive and wondered if 10mm battens at 400mm centres would be ok. Extra work I don't mind doing but I don't want to end...

Internal Insulation of filled cavity wall

Thanks Jeds. Pleased to hear that I can dot'n'dab straight on to the wall as the cavity is filled and wondered if that meant the wall should be considered as a "solid" wall and requiring battens for an air gap. I suppose the dot/dab will create a small air gap anyway. Thanks again, Bob.

Internal Insulation of filled cavity wall

Hi, I'm looking for some info on this subject which has to some extent been discussed before but I'd like some further clarification for my own situation. The house is 1930's with a cavity wall which was filled 20 years ago. There are some vents in the external walls but not sure if there is...

    Light Point for new room

Thanks again John for taking the time to explain everything. That helps me greatly to move ahead knowing the options available. It will be interesting to see what some of the local electricians come up with, there may be other alternatives, we'll see. Your comment about the bureaucrats is spot...

    Light Point for new room

Thanks for the various responses. It looks like the regs in Scotland were changed in 2007 where they stipulated these heights for light switches. And as it was insisted on during warrant application process I feel I have to go with it. So my question was regarding the possibility of using the...

    Light Point for new room

Hi Ericmark You are right that BC can be accommodating at times and I have often benefitted from some flexibility from them. Like you said you have to give them good reason and they often permit variations. However on this occasion they insisted on height of 900 - 1100mm for the switch which...

    Light Point for new room

Morning John Thanks for your responses which are helpful. At least I now know it's not unsafe to use the 13a circuit. But whether the same goes in Scotland??? Regs in Scotland insist on any new work - light switches must be at height of 900 - 1100mm. ( I guess to make them more accessible for...

    Light Point for new room

We have created a new storage room at the rear of an integrated garage which is being done with a warrant (Scotland). We need to fit a new light point & switch in the new room which is difficult from the existing home lighting circuit and will be very expensive. There is a light in the...

    Ignition Electrode fault.

Understand what you're suggesting. There hasn't been any such work undertaken for many years. Thanks, Bob.

    Ignition Electrode fault.

No. and no outages or consumer unit faults. Be interested to hear your thoughts behind the question. Thanks, Bob.

Thanks for reminding me Ian, have now quoted the boiler make & model on the opening post.

    Ignition Electrode fault.

Hi, hoping someone might be able to confirm my suspicion about the electrode from my gas combi. There is some blackening on the white sleeve. The following symptoms apply for either CH or DHW demand. The "flame on" lights up green but within a few seconds goes off and the "ignition failed"...

convert crawl space to full height rooms

Our house built in 1850 has stone walls with some of the basement rooms already in use. These would originally have been storage rooms, servants quarters etc. Room heights are 8 feet and floors are mix of stone and wood T&G. The other basement areas have what looks like compacted sand to a...
