    You can get a pretty good finish with a quality paint over mdf. Use a roller (with the edges rounded off), not a brush in a dust-free environment, and take your time. I would use 18mm instead of 12 mm mdf for sure.

    Router Table

    I looked at the Trend Professional router table a few days ago. About 350 quid, and the dewalt will (99% sure) fit straight on. Looked like a decent table, though Im now looking at the Festool system, a bit more expensive, but their stuff cant be beaten in my opinion.

    Can you fit a splinter guard to the base plate? I have a bosch - the splinter guard helps keeping the blade straight, particularly on thicker materials.

    almost drilled through a pipe.. help!

    Hi, Firstly I'd run the hot and cold taps on your sink, and feel for a change in the pipe temperature. If there is a change, then it would give you a clue as to the purpose of the pipe.
