Mystery hot tank overflow - any ideas/suggestions?

I've done a bit of research, and it would seem I could add a check valve to the hot pipe. Is this hiding the problem, or would this be a good move?

Mystery hot tank overflow - any ideas/suggestions?

HUGE THANKS to PICASSO - your hunch was absolutely right. This is what we did to test and solve the problem: Put the HW to advance, filling up the cylinder with hot. Opened the hot iso valve. Turned shower on, and turned it to hottest setting. Checked hand temperature of hot by valve - hot...

Mystery hot tank overflow - any ideas/suggestions?

This actually makes a lot of sense. The shower certainly is a 'mixer' type, with two handles, one for flow, and the other for temperature. Is it worth adjusting the temperature on the shower so it is v cold, as in, shutting off the hot?

Mystery hot tank overflow - any ideas/suggestions?

I had two lever-style isolation valves for the hot and cold put into the ceiling of the DS shower room. The overflowing only occurs when the hot valve is open, and can be stopped when it is closed (not instantly, but after a few minutes). The 12-24 hours reference is to when this valve is...

Mystery hot tank overflow - any ideas/suggestions?

My Setup: Electric boiler, heating HW / CH - I have a gravity-fed hot tank and header tank in loft. My Problem: When turning on the HW for a downstairs shower, after between 12-24 hours, the header overflow starts trickling with water. The ball valve is operating fine, but the expansion...

Hello all, I have a disappointing shower and awife who is keen for me to resolve the following problem! I have an upstairs shower, linked to mt electric boiler-heated, gravity fed heated water. The pressure of the hot is incredibly disappointing, so I am looking at installing a shower pump...

Troublesome PIR sensor on outside light

I have outdoor lights which work fine, but need to be manually turned on and off, so I added a PIR sensor from screwfix. I followed all the wiring instructions, and turned the light back on, and flicked the on switch. The lights come on, but do not turn off. In the instructions, it says that...

Holiday home electrics problem - any suggestions?

I've checked - there is only one wide RCD, and the switch is fully up. We switched it off and pushed it back up. There is a test button too, but that is not having any effect. Is it likely there could be a fault in the switch itself? Don't panic, I won't try to repair or replace it myself!

Holiday home electrics problem - any suggestions?

Hello all, We are one day into our holiday, staying at a friends cottage in Dorset. All was going well, but we noticed it was getting cold last night, and discovered that the power to the boiler was off. Power to the whole kitchen circuit, half the lounge and some of the bedrooms have...

    Electric Boiler Settings

We have had an electric boiler fitted, and thought I would share some information - there seems to be very little about them online. We had one to replace our multifuel backboiler - a nice idea in principle, but it never got the house warm, only mildy warmish - after our oil boiler died on us...

Fitting a short radius bend waste

This might sound enormously nooby to ask, but once a short radius bend pipe has been cut to fit, and the end attachment put on, is it advisable to put sealant around the cut join? I'm asking because, surprise surprise, I have a very small leak coming from exactly that place, perhaps a drop a...

    Does this estimate sound reasonable?

I certainly didn't think it would create this much debate! I work with computers, so I know how much a repair should cost, how much a simple website would be and what an online marketing campaign should look like. I haven't however had much experience of paying for plumbing work, so I...

    Does this estimate sound reasonable?

Just to add to the debate, he is gassafe registered, and I put VAT included to help with gauging price. He isn't VAT registered, but clearly the materials have the joy of VAT!

    Does this estimate sound reasonable?

I live in a small three bed semi in south Kent, and have had a quote for some plumbing work, mainly: Drain down CH system To 'flip' a rad from one side of the room to the other (2m) To connect two other wall-mounted rads to the existing CH (about 2-3m from existing pipes) To run H and C...
