Hi Nige F and Workerant, thank you both for your comments, I have tested the threads on another identical gate valve and they are the same as the ball job. I will dismantle the pipework tomorrow and the will pay careful attention to the pipe and olive condition, and if neccesary renew it...

I am fitting a 22mm lever ball valve in place of a gate valve, and the piece of pipe at one end will have the retained 22mm nut and olive, will it be ok to screw these onto the new valve which has exactly the same pipe entry. Regards vectraguy
