    Willis External Immersion Heater

Hi Donald, I also discovered a Willis Heater while looking for some kind of "Inline water heater" to try and supplement my heat pump/electric immersion boiler which is going to get very expensive this winter. Question - How do you regulate the shutoff temperature for the willis heater given its...

    Hallway downlight ceiling alignment

Hi Folks, Not sure if this is the correct topic or not but was wondering if anyone could give me their opinion. I want to fit some downlights down my hallway from the front door to the door at the back which connects to the kitchen. See attached picture (with kitchen in the background)...

Scratched Engineered wood floor - Sand and re-finish?

Cheers folks for the feedback. Sounds like its best not to try and sand the floor, as I will either bugger up the sanded surface, or the finish. Instead ill try and sand out the worst individual scratches and touch up with a polyurethane varnish instead.

Scratched Engineered wood floor - Sand and re-finish?

Hi Folks, My living room has a 3-strip oak engineered wood floor, with around 3mm oak layer. There are numerous deep scratches and gouges in the surface due to heavy furniture being dragged across the floor (the scratches appear to be in on the satin sheen lacquer finish). I was thinking...

Laying a thin wetroom screed over existing concrete floor

Hi, wasent sure if this is the right topic but surely people experienced with rendering walls should be able to help me here. I am about to lay a semi-wetroom screed over a previously poured concrete floor. When I say "semi-wetroom" I mean there will be a wetroom shower area but due to the...

Cutting through a rebar in suspended concrete ceiling

Well I dug around the existing shower trap and can see 2 pairs of re-bars have already been cut to allow for the installation of the trap. This was presumably done by the housebuilder during construction. I will try and work around the existing re-bars and not cut through anything else. In...

Cutting through a rebar in suspended concrete ceiling

Hi, I have a recently built (2007) steel framed semi-detatched house. I have gutted the upstairs ensuite bathroom (2.4m x 0.85m), partly to retile it and partly to fix a botched quasi-wetroom which had not been properly tanked. The wetroom plumbing (trap, drain etc) is set into the...

Hiding 12v PSU in dry lining box for Nest Thermostat

Yeah thats what I was hoping for. I can buy a cheap 12v PSU for LED lighting dirt cheap on Ebay, though I dont mind paying a bit extra for something that is reliable etc. The biggest requirement is that it fits into a 1 gang box.

Hiding 12v PSU in dry lining box for Nest Thermostat

Hi, thats the point. I do intend to conceal the 12v wires in the wall, but there needs to be a PSU somewhere to convert 230v to 12v. I dont want a power brick connected to a standard plug socket, hence my question about hiding a 12v PSU (like used as an LED lighting controller) in a metal dry...

Hiding 12v PSU in dry lining box for Nest Thermostat

Hi, I plan to buy a Nest thermostat, but because I dont have any 12v supply wires to the control box, I need to power the thermostat separately. I dont like the USB PSU and Cable solution because it means the USB wires will be visible running up the side of the wall. I would much prefer the...

Need wireless room stat + boiler receiver with WIFI (without 3rd hub)?

Hi, I have been researching different "smart" and WIFI enabled thermostats but havent been able to find anything that specifically suits my needs. I have a basic, combi-driven heating system, with a Honeywell wireless CM61NG thermostat. With the Hive, you need the "thermostat", "relay...

Removing pressure reducer valve for better pressure/flow rates?

Hi All, I have problems with low pressure/flow rate in my house (in North Cornwall). I have a combi system with no space for a header tank, meaning running a bath (or two people using hot water simultaneously) has a very low pressure/flow. I already had a plumber who said the problem stemmed...

    Waterproofing Engineered wood HDF core

Hi, I bought some engineered wood which happens to have an HDF core (as opposed to a plywood core in the more expensive planks). I was wondering if its possible to paint the underside edges of the plank with oil or varnish to make the HDF edge more waterproof (in case of a liquid spill...
