    Fireplace Unblock

Hi, I have recently removed some plaster to determine my fireplace builders opening. This is what I found:- This seems a pretty big opening for a small 2 bed house (1939 built) judging by the arch support and the (what appear to me) to be clear cut edges taking all the chimney...

    HETAS in Nottingham

I am having a right job trying to find a HETAS engineer to fit a wood burner. Plenty of 'shops' will do it and start by marking a £500 wood burner up to £800. One even gave me a quote over the phone of £1400 without any engineer visit?!?! A few claim to be HETAS but do not appear on...

    Garage Panels

Hi all, I was burgled the other day. Trying to gain access to my side door the scum had their back against my concrete sectional garage and feet against the door to push. The door didn't give way but two panels on the garage are now 'buckled' inward. I have pushed them back into their normal...

    Widening a chimney breast

Chimney widened now. The builder has lined the hole with plasterboard and skimmed which I expected. However what I didn't expect is them to have boarded the top too. Surely a metal register plate has to go there? I asked the builder about this and he says the fitter just cuts a hole. The...

I read somewhere that a certificate is required as it's a structural alteration? Obviously not sure hence posting here. He is not fitting the burner only widening the breast up. Cheers

    Widening a chimney breast

Hi, I have had a builder round to widen my chimney breast in preparation for a woodburner. He said no probs but made no mention of a structural certificate etc. I've been checking online and seems this is serious job!! Does this builder sound like he knows what he's doing...

    Campervan Electrics

RCD is in the consumer unit in the van. Only two circuits 1 supplies a single socket which is fine the other supplies the charger. I've swapped them over but it still trips the RCD whichever circuit it's connected to. Supply is via a hook up cable. I have a multitester Charger works...

    Campervan Electrics

    Campervan Electrics

Hi folks ... Not sure if this is the right section to post in but hey ho.. I recently added a power supply/battery charger to my campervan electric 240v hook up. This allows charging of the leisure battery when hooked up and runs the 12v electrics. Problem is as soon as I flick the MCB...

    External Supply

Hi all, New here so I hope I’ll find it useful! I am planning on building a garden pond in the next couple of months and obviously I need a power supply for the pump etc. I know the cable has to reinforced and buried at least 500mm with warning tape 250mm above that. My garden is...
