Replying to my own query..........one of the small screwdrivers which light up when you touch the end on 240v does the trick, just make sure it is insulated with just 3mm exposed at tip.

    Buzzing solenoid

Can anyone throw some light on a buzzing solenoid on a Glowworm spacesaver kfb 40 gas valve, SIT830 tandem. It works ok but for the first five or ten minutes there is a loud buzzing from the solenoid then it fades a bit. It seems to be a resonance. Can anyone suggest a cause or solution? and...

    bs2871 type b mcb

question not so much about the mcb as the max Zs tables. In the on site guide, it's the blue one I've got, on page 89 it begins the max disconnection times/Zs values table, giving 0.4 and 5s tables. For bs3036, bs88, and bs1361 there are seperate tables(with seperate value) for 0.4 and 5...

    New oven - rated 16a

I've got a new oven the book says it should be fitted to a 16a circuit. I don't have a cooker circuit in the kitchen, can I spur off the 32a ring circuit with a fused outlet, say 16-20A? Can you get fused outlets above 13A? and what cable should I use, 2.5mm? thanks for any help

    Free Air requirements

it'll not be a kick in the arse off 100cm2, if you are lucky enough to be able to fit it in the floor (are you on the ground, does it connect to outside air via enough airbricks, does it NOT connect to another property) you could use 7671 from www.bes.ltd.uk @ £7.85 + del + vat

    Horstmann Centaurplus C27 timer

I fitted one of these a couple of months ago, customer phoned last week that it was faulty. Had a look, it would only power up the display from the battery, the mains had no effect as if it was dead. Fitted a new one and it was ok for two days, and then the same again. Phoned Horstmann, they...

If they are anything like the mechanical and electrical engineers I have worked with the last few years they will have to be able to create graphs and email them to their bosses and CC them to everyone else. An ability to use excel for everything (lists, tables, notices, etc.) except...
