    Patching Plaster

Sorry if this has been covered (ha, ha!) before. Some plaster has blown where the flue from our gas fire runs. It's about a foot wide, from just above the fire to the ceiling. It's also in the room above in a similar manner. This won't be a problem in the future, as we're having a flueless...

    Gloss or emulsion first

I paint the ceiling first, then the gloss, & finish with the walls. Makes sense to me!

    shelving above stairwell

Hope this works: The 2 walls either side are plasterboard - the distance between them is about 84cm. Yes, the carpet is ghastly

    shelving above stairwell

Some interesting comments - thanks! As I said, the shelves would not be accessible from the stairs, so nothing could fall off them onto somebody's head.....unless the whole thing fell down  Still trying to sort out some photos.....

    shelving above stairwell

    Lighting Cable & plasterboard

Thanks again for the help. I got lucky - there were no noggins between the head plate & the switch locations. Basically, it has cost about £6 per switch alteration - new switch, wall box, junction box, blank plate & cable. Well pleased, jobs a good 'un!

    Lighting Cable & plasterboard

Thanks for the response & the telling off for posting incorrectly  I'm put off by the idea of making some holes in the wall large enough to get a drill into, as patching big holes in plasterboard sounds like a nightmare! But if that's the only way....... I don't think the walls have...

    Lighting Cable & plasterboard

Doing something similar myself. I've rehung some doors, so the light switches need relocating to the opposite side. I'm resonably sure I can mount the switch & do the wiring, but actually getting the cable from the loft to the switch is the tricky bit. Firstly, I need to determine where...
