Hi,

Looking for some advice as how to proceed with my broken dryer, which I believe is a John Lewis rebadged Electrolux.

I've done some research, and I believe that the capacitor has gone:
1. Drum doesn't rotate when used, but moves manually
2. Belt still in place and not worn or loose
3. Motor is humming but not moving (as though stuck)
4. If I give the drum a push with the motor 'running', it will continue for a short while ( few seconds, after which I assume it then attempts to reverse direction)..

Problem is that the cap seems to be hidden underneath a white plastic housing (the lower red/blue cable from the motor), and I'm not sure how to remove it? The housing seems to be fairly complicated to get out, so there must be a way to remove it reasonably easily without taking the whole thing out (which would necessitate disconnecting a lot of electrics and possibly a few hoses!). Around the back where the cap is, there is a slotted type of plug, but no way to really get to it..

Does any one have any experience of this type of set up? Or would it be easier to snip and reconnect a new one elsewhere?

Been looking at this again, and there doesn't seem to be a way to get the cap out. I would have thought that this would be a fairly easy part to service! It's firmly stuck within the electrics housing and the whole thing looks to require striping out.

Is it ok to attach a new one elsewhere? Any ideas how I should secure it, or where would be a good place to position it. Could I epoxy one to the casing, or do they get hot?

This is a pic round the back of the cap..

Just so this thread has an ending - had to get someone round to replace the capacitor - which didn't seem that difficult to remove one you had loosened off some screws round the back - still didn't run through. Engineer rang Zanussi helpline, and they weren't much help. Suggested it was the PCB, which at £140 for the part was too much for a 'maybe'. Other possibility was the motor which was about the same.

So, decided to call it a day and bought a new one (an AEG) yesterday.
