Yes, the motor capacitor was checked, but thanks for the suggestion. The service engineer is currently fitting a non-return valve. However, in the process, he has discovered that the oil feed to this boiler Ts off from the oil pipe feeding another boiler, so this could be the problem.

Thanks for your suggestion, Simon, about running the boiler with the other two switched off. Unfortunately it didn't cure the problem but it was, as you said, worth a try. The non-return valve should be fitted soon, so we'll see if that solves the problem. (I wasn't serious about contacting...
