Is there such a thing as a clip-on architrave?

No, sadly not. The other side is a wardrobe which has no skirting...

Is there such a thing as a clip-on architrave?

When buying it, I very carefully measured the width of the recess but didn't think to measure whether it would actually be able to get into the recess or not!

Some great ideas there, thank you all!

Is there such a thing as a clip-on architrave?

I need some architrave on my door frame but there is a piece of furniture that will periodically need to be removed - and there's no room to remove it when the architrave is on. so I'm wondering whether there is such a thing a removable architrave that be snapped on and off the doorframe easily.

How do you bed a granite hearth?

I'm not sure either - that's just what my floor guy told me to do! The current hearth was raised and the new hearth is going to be flush so the constructional hearth needs to be lower than it is now - but only by 20mm or so.

How do you bed a granite hearth?

Current constructional hearth needs to be dug away and then re-levelled with "a screed", according to my floor guy. Firstly, what sort of screed - anything special you should use for hearths? Secondly, how do I then bed the granite hearth on top of this - what do I use? And what thickness...

    Painting over pre-painted MDF

That's great, Steve - many thanks! I have got some Zinsser BIN in the cupboard - would that do instead of the Coverstain?

    Painting over pre-painted MDF

I've got an old MDF dressing table that is painted - I'm not sure what the paint is, it's neither matt nor gloss but has a very slight sheen to it. I want to paint over this, preferably with gloss paint. Can I just lightly sand the paint and go straight over it with the gloss or do I need to...

Tile paint/primer - is inecessary or will ordinary paint do?

Thanks! I did think that only one coat of primer was needed, but the tin said to do a second coat if neccessary so I did. So go straight on to undercoat now then, yes?

Tile paint/primer - is inecessary or will ordinary paint do?

Thanks for the tips here, I got some International Tile Primer & have done 2 coats. There's still a lot of the original colour showing through (it was dark red and I'm changing to white) and I was wondering whether I ought to put on undercoat before the gloss, or can I do more coats of primer...

Tile paint/primer - is inecessary or will ordinary paint do?

I'll have a look at those ones too, thanks. I apinted tiles in the kitchen once, as a temp job only intended to last a year. I hated the look and would never do it on anything that's going to be on show but I really think it will be virtually unnoticeable here. I just want it to stay on the...

Brilliant, I'll do that - much appreciated!

Tile paint/primer - is inecessary or will ordinary paint do?

Specifically tile primer - not other primer? I have a tin of oil-based primer in the cupboard, don't suppose that would do? And what on top of the primer - special tile paint or normal gloss? Thank you very much!

Tile paint/primer - is inecessary or will ordinary paint do?

I have some old burgundy tiles that I'm thinking of painting white. It doesn't really matter what it looks like because it's going on a wall at the back of a cupboard which will then have shelves all over it so won't see much of the paint. I just want to lighten it up a bit in there as there's...

    High gloss bathroom units

Thanks for your reply. I'm not intending to paint them at all, I am buying one to use as it is. But I've heard a few people say this high-gloss is prone to peeling, so I didn't want to buy a unit that's going to be useless in a year's time and wondered whether I ought to buy a matt unit instead.

Sorry, I should've said that I am planning on buying the unit ready-made, not painting an old unit myself...

    High gloss bathroom units

Is it true that high-gloss paint is prone to peeling from MDF units? Or at least more prone to it that standard gloss or matt...? Thank you!

How do I prepare this wall?!

Our stairwell looks awful. It was badly plastered and then painted directly on the plaster. I'm not sure what sort of paint it is but it's stretchy when you pull it off, almost plastic-like. There is also a lump across it where a handrail was removed. I want it to be a plain painted wall so...

Sit-on sinks - can they sit on anything?

Thanks, moggett. Hmmm, good point, so how come you can have sinks on standard sink units then? Aren't they just an MDF shell with veneer on? (unless you buy expensive solid units).
