I need some architrave on my door frame but there is a piece of furniture that will periodically need to be removed - and there's no room to remove it when the architrave is on. so I'm wondering whether there is such a thing a removable architrave that be snapped on and off the doorframe easily.

I'm not sure either - that's just what my floor guy told me to do! The current hearth was raised and the new hearth is going to be flush so the constructional hearth needs to be lower than it is now - but only by 20mm or so.

Current constructional hearth needs to be dug away and then re-levelled with "a screed", according to my floor guy. Firstly, what sort of screed - anything special you should use for hearths? Secondly, how do I then bed the granite hearth on top of this - what do I use? And what thickness...

Thanks! I did think that only one coat of primer was needed, but the tin said to do a second coat if neccessary so I did. So go straight on to undercoat now then, yes?

Thanks for the tips here, I got some International Tile Primer & have done 2 coats. There's still a lot of the original colour showing through (it was dark red and I'm changing to white) and I was wondering whether I ought to put on undercoat before the gloss, or can I do more coats of primer...

Thanks for your reply. I'm not intending to paint them at all, I am buying one to use as it is. But I've heard a few people say this high-gloss is prone to peeling, so I didn't want to buy a unit that's going to be useless in a year's time and wondered whether I ought to buy a matt unit instead.

Our stairwell looks awful. It was badly plastered and then painted directly on the plaster. I'm not sure what sort of paint it is but it's stretchy when you pull it off, almost plastic-like. There is also a lump across it where a handrail was removed. I want it to be a plain painted wall so...

Thanks, moggett. Hmmm, good point, so how come you can have sinks on standard sink units then? Aren't they just an MDF shell with veneer on? (unless you buy expensive solid units).
