    white wood grain UPVC

Haha, I honestly haven't seen that before. Just standard beads and rubbers on our ones.

New French Doors Fitted By Insurance Company

They'll have to replasce the frame aswell, unless you know where the originals were made...? Odds are, that door leaves from another company aren't going to line up, or even use the same hinges.

    white wood grain UPVC

I've been a quality assurance inspector on upvc windows, doors and sealed glass units for the last 10 years. We started making this product about 18 months ago, and I have to admit, it looks ok. My first thought upon seeing it was that it will get very dirty. Especially if you live by a main...

    scratched glass

Haha, it does sound a bit dodgy, doesn't it. It's just a white powder that you mix into a paste with some water (soapy is better), and then work into the scratch. I've worked in window/door/glass factories for years, so have never had to buy the stuff, so don't where stocks it. If I was you...

    Fitting last short window bead...

Tip for the future: Cut a small V out of the back of the bead (just the thin bit that sits in the drainage channel) you'll then be able to bend it in easily. It would've dropped in anyway, if you'd rolled it in - placed it on top of the opening, angled slightly back, then tapped both mitres...

    scrape on upvc window

Sand it out, be careful not to 'dip' it though. Finish with the finest sandpaper you have (or even a scotchpad). If it's too deep, you can heat up the end of a white pencil crayon with a lighter and rub this into it. Leave it to dry, and then knife off the excess. Sounds ****e, but it works!

    scratched glass

Agreed, Jeweller's Rouge will work a treat if they're not too deep (or even if they are, but it takes ages!). You'll need to buy a mandrel and soft pad for your drill to use it.

    self cleaning glass

Sorry just noticed the 'self cleaning' part. Haha. This will increase the price a fair bit, mate.

    self cleaning glass

That size unit will cost you around £70, mate. Can I just recommend - as somebody who's been making and inspecting windows, doors and conservatorys for 13 years - that you don't opt for glass, as it gets ridiculously hot in the summer. If you do go glass, then I recommend that you have...

City & Guilds cert in Basic Construction Skills

Haha, I never thought that. I just thought it would make me a little more attractive to any potential employer, rather than having nothing. I know the NVQ route is going to be the way to go, but hoped that this could help persuade somebody to give me a shot.

City & Guilds cert in Basic Construction Skills

Thanks for the reply. I'd happily take the 10 wks out to do this course, if it meant that there'd be a job/apprenticeship waiting at the end of it for me. My grandad was a builder for 50 years, it's just a shame that he retired 10 years before I worked out what I wanted to do...

City & Guilds cert in Basic Construction Skills

Hi, I've recently been made redundant, and am looking to retrain in carpentry. I've been offered the above course by the job centre, free of charge. The only problem is that it's 2 days a week for the next 10 weeks. This is quite a long time to be out of work (I've never missed a day in...
