like the other guy said its best to lay a bed of motar on the steel before it goes up but if its only 5mm,fill in all the gaps you can and point the rest up with 3-1 motar i wouldnt worry about about 1-2mm because its going to settle anyway

you can get some fancy plugs&screws for therma blocks most hardware stores sell them trick is to drill slowly not like you want the job done yesterday and if in doubt add some no nails to the plugs
