A showerhead leaks from the threaded hose connection. I have tried replacing the original rubber washer with the same and a fibre version but all to no avail. The leak persists. Anyone have a clue as to what the problem might be? The showerhead is one of those cheapish looking chrome plastic...

    Identifying manufacturers of shower bar?

I am trying to identify the manufacturers of a thermostatic shower bar which is leaking at the shower head as it is unable to be fully turned off. There is no obvious logo other than a set of markings on the supply control on the left of the bar: a set of tilda-like symbols that denote the...

Joining sections of a plastic high-level flushpipe.

A leak has occurred on one of the joints of a plastic flushpipe from high-level cistern. I have obtained an identical piece to the defective section but I am not clear on how to dismantle the existing pieces. Should any heat be used when making the new joint? Is it best to use plumbers’ grease...

Cutting off the edge of a worktop (in situ).

I wish to cut off a thin section (about 0.5 – 1 cm) of the end of a worktop. The worktop is fitted in place and supports a kitchen sink so it is not practical to remove it from this position. The material is chipboard with a laminate surface. What is the best way to make this cut in situ with a...

    Leaking flushpipe to high-level cistern.

I am unable to properly seal the WC flush pipe where it connects to a high-level cistern. The siphon holds the water in the cistern perfectly but upon flushing a fair bit of water runs down the flushpipe. I have tried replacing the rubber washer but this makes no difference. Any recommendations...

How to clean contents of radiator from garden paving slabs.

While cleaning out a central heating radiator, I managed to spill some of the contents on some paving stones in the garden. Any suggestions as to what I could use to clean the mess? The stains are from the black sludge rather than the red stuff. Thanks for any help.

    Motorised valve issue?

I seem to be having a problem with the motorized valve on my CH system. All of the rads have failed to come on but hot water is still plentiful. I switched the manual lever on one of the MVs and this did the trick of bringing on the pump and moving heated water to the rads. Presumably the...

Adapting a flushpipe where WC is at right-angle to cistern.

I am trying to connect a flushpipe on an old low-level loo where the cistern is mounted at 90° to the WC. Previously the connection between the loo and the cistern has contained a section of solvent weld waste (40mm) and what appears to be a couple of compression elbow fittings (one of which...

    Word bemuses a cretin.

Call me an imbecile but in trying to deactivate Automatic Numbered Lists and the Automatic Auto Bulleted Lists in the Tools > AutoCorrrect feature, I seem to have invoked a setting that produces a margin and has set all text to be printed in red and underlined. As a result have been...

Will these taps accept an indirect supply?

I need to fit a levered mixer tap to a bathroom basin. The tap comes with flexible connectors which are about 8mm wide. As the water supply is from a cistern is it likely that the water will drip rather than flow? On the base of the taps they have '8mn' embossed if this means anything...
