    Venting soil pipe

I've installed a new toilet and need to know how to vent the soil pipe satisfactorily. The toilet is in one of the central rooms of my bungalow (i.e. no external walls). Do I connect the pan to a branch connection and run a vertical vent from this? Can the vertical 'chimney' piece have any...

    Tile vents

Thanks Freddie, I could go through the soffit but it would involve a long run of ducting, the shortest distance is to the roof. j

    Tile vents

I've installed two in-line extractor fans in my bungalow, one in the bathroom, one a seperate WC. I could take the hoses to the soffits and use the vents that came with the fan units or i guess I could run them up to the roof and use some kind of tile vent...? I ask as they originate in the...

    which finishing sander???

Thanks all. Jason, the flooring I've laid is new oak and is pretty well finished already apart from small amounts of filler here and there. I have, however, got a large area to do (60m2+), so resorting to using my hand sander is not an option. Would you avoid the HSS rectangular jobby and...

    which finishing sander???

Thanks RKB, I checked with the hire shop and I reckon I'll go for the rectangular orbital sander, they reckoned that this woul give a better finish and not leave any swirls. I'll use my Bosch orbital sander for the edges. Cheers, j

    which finishing sander???

I'm getting geared up to finish the oak flooring that I put down a few months back (T&G 180mm wide board, secret nailed to battens). The boards came sanded but with a few marks (which I've added to!), and I've also done some filling which need sanding flat. I decided against the traditional...

    Ceramic Tile Adhesive

Yes, it was water-based paint. You're right, I will keep thinking about it, plus the wife wouldn't forgive me if a tile peeled off and hit one of the kids! Cheers, j

    Ceramic Tile Adhesive

Hi masona, Thanks for this, I gave the Unibond helpline a call earlier, they said that cement based adhesives may fail if there is movement in the wall (not a problem for me, it's 60 yr old blockwork, plastered) they also said that the cement may 'eat' into the plaster...? something about the...

    Joining wooden worktops

Cheers All, I've got them in now and they look great. I hired a 1/2" router and jig and bought a couple of long straight cutters from Screwfix (£7 each as opposed to the £20 the hire shop were going to charge). I used this router and jig to cut the recesses for the worktop clamps (three on each...

OS Hard Waxoil for kitchen worktops?

I've just invested in some v nice 40mm thick oak worktops for the new kitchen. They have come 120grit sanded but unfinished, I've read all the comments on Tung Oil, to dilute or not to dilute...etc. I was wondering whether anyone had any views on using OS Hard Waxoil (now known as Polyx Oil)...

    External doors

Hi Masona, No 50cm, the opening was (is) a wierd double door affair with 'baffled-edges (1950's Bungalow). I want to close the gap and install a standard width door. The other is a sliding French Door set-up, which I'm replacing with two narrower opening doors. Cheers, j

    External doors

I'm about to fit two new external doors including frames. The openings that they are going into, need reducing, (more than expanding foam and mastic will cope with!!!) How do I close the opening to the required size? The house has brickwork upto knee height then redered brickwork and blockwork...

    Kitchen cornice

Spot on, just been checking out the talk pages on Screwfix and had a simliar suggestion, I guess I could screw the cornice to the base of a wooden mitre box?

    Kitchen cornice

Hi Masona, Yes, it does, I was trying to get this to sit flat on the mitre saw base and thought I'd succeeded until I tried to match the two pieces together, j

    Kitchen cornice

Can anyone give me any tips on cutting kitchen cornice? I tried last night, but due to the curved surfaces both sides I was unable to get it 'dead' in both planes on the mitre block. They looked fine until I tried to meet them up... Help please... j
