False chimney breast around cassette (hole in wall) gas fire

I am getting a balanced flue, hole in the wall, gas fire fitted soon. It will be installed on four legs against a flat wall. To save some money I will build the chimney breast around it myself. I know to use metal studwork, and I think fire resistant (pink) plasterboard will suffice. The...

Fluorescent Tubes (linked lights) will not start

Thanks Eric and Rocky.. Investigated series starters a bit more. I had in BG FSU so tried BG FS2 from TLC. Still didn't work, though it seemed to me it should have done. Finally bought Sylvania FS 11 universal from Screwfix (rec for series as well. Seems to have done the trick!

Fluorescent Tubes (linked lights) will not start

I do hope that someone may be able to help with this problem. I have kitchen under unit lighting comprising four linked fluorescent units. They are all the same make and use T8 triphosphor tubes. The array, controlled by a single on/off switch, is made up of 18”/15w to 36”/30W to 18”/15w to...

    Centerrad radiators from Plumb Center

Bingo. Thank you Dean. That is what I had thought but did not realise they needed quite such an effort. When I first tried the rad was lifting of its brackets. But all sorted now and the wife can get to work!

    Centerrad radiators from Plumb Center

I have had some of these installed for a few years and the dust has accumulated on the top of the radiator just below the top grill. That grill and the side panels are not part of the main radiator structure. They seem to be fiendishly clipped into place, and try as I might, I cannot work out...

    Megaflow or Combi???????

I have just stumbled on this thread and loved it so much I just have to add a little resurection! As a 60 year old DIYer I have seen a few things over the years and what stands out (on plumbing/heating) is the manufacturer/installer driven thrust on combis. I often refer to them them to others...

    Megaflow Pressure reducing valve

Any advice gratefully received - regarding my PRV which is leaking from the join in the black plastic part of the cartridge. I can replace the cartridge easily (I think) at a cost of about £60 (pt no 95605824). But I can get a complete replacement for the full valve combination (PVR and...

    Honeywell CMT921 room stat

:D  :D  :D Well, D Hailsham (I guess Derek or Dave?), it took a little while, but as I have said already I admire your patience, particularly with the innocents such as myself. YES it is all working fine with the final wiring instructions. I suppose with the glory of...

    Honeywell CMT921 room stat

I had just taken the numbers first quoted from what was stamped on the end of the bodies. Having taken the covers off I see that the model numbers are V4043H1106 for the airing cupboard one and 272848 for the ones in the loft. I see from the internet that they are one and the same valve.

    Honeywell CMT921 room stat

The one in the airing cupboard by the pump and feeding into the JB I referred to is Honeywell F8-0032. The one in the loft is Honeywell F2-0009. In fact there are two of these in the loft, one in each of the two primary flows into the TWO cylinders.

    Honeywell CMT921 room stat

I admire your patience D Hailsham, please hang in there! Hey, I have traced the other end of the stat cable to a junction box in the airing cupboard, near the pump and a two port zone valve (ZV)(one pipe in/one out and either open or shut). Various cables into this box were in some trunking...

    Honeywell CMT921 room stat

Thanks for quick reply. To be honest I have until noe been using only one of those voltage testing screwdrivers (little neon display), but I have now dug out a dusty multimeter as well. So what results - When the thermostat setting calls for heat the green light comes on AND there is...

    Honeywell CMT921 room stat

Thank you so much for your ongoing help and we are progressing ! I have got to the point where the green light is doing exactly what it says in the instructions. I managed this by swopping the yellow and the black, neither of which has 240V bfore wiring it up, so that the yellow is now on...

    Honeywell CMT921 room stat

I had ensured that the controller was calling for heat and had set it for on permanantly, but even with this no sign of any of the lights. Hope you can still help?
