    Stuck butterfly valve!!!

Quick update Gents (before I mark this thread as solved.....), After I initially pumped up the expansion tank a couple of months back, the boiler and central heating have been absolutely fine. I had also drained and flushed the system and radiators a couple of times, added the relevant Fernox...

    Too much Fernox?

Ignore that - it's just started working. Must have been some trapped air or something. Cheers. A.

    Too much Fernox?

OK, Drained all of the radiators last night via a hosepipe attached to the kitchen rad TRV and out into an external drain (no drain cock on any rad in the house). Collected some in a tub and plenty of very fine black sludge coming out this time (which is not what I saw last week when I...

    Too much Fernox?

Thanks Muggles, That's good enough for me! Will flush within the next day or two. Cheers. Alex

    Boiler service

Thanks Tony, I appreciate the reassurance regarding the Baxi service. I'll be really relieved once it finally gets looked at! Cheers. Alex

    Boiler service

I've just signed up for a £19 per month contract with Baxi (I have the dreaded Potterton Powermax HE 150 boiler). They can't service it for six weeks (apparently your plan doesn't become 'active' until a month after you sign up, at which point you can call and book your annual service. I assume...

    Too much Fernox?

Morning Folks, I drained and re-filled my central heating a few days ago, adding a litre of Fernox F3. (150 litre boiler so 2 x 500ml bottles of Fernox). Due to a deflated expansion vessel, we’d been refilling via the filling loop on an almost daily basis for a long time so the system has only...

    Stuck butterfly valve!!!

Thanks Tony, I've phoned a Gas Safe engineer today and told him what I did. He's said without seeing it's hard to say but SHOULD be OK until Baxi come out next month. (He can't get here any sooner himself). I did read something about a problem with flues in voids. I think it said it was...

    Stuck butterfly valve!!!

The boiler was manufactured in 2007. There was a safety recall on models manufactured between 2001 and 2005. I called Potterton a couple of weeks ago and gave them the serial number of mine and they confirmed it was not one of the affected units.

    Stuck butterfly valve!!!

Thanks again, Gents. It's a Potterton PowerMax HE 150. I've taken everyone's comments on board and won't touch it again. Just to reiterate - at this point all I have done is drain all the radiators, repair the leaking radiator valves, pump up the existing expansion vessel to 1.0 bar (whilst...

    Stuck butterfly valve!!!

Thanks for your comments, Gentlemen. Sorry - didn't want to make the post too lengthy but the reason I drained the CH because I had a couple of leaks (one from the bottom of a TRV) and one bleed nipple valve. They've now been repaired. I also wanted to run some Fernox through the system for a...

    Stuck butterfly valve!!!

Hi Folks, I've got my central heating drained and the boiler taken apart. (I'm swapping out the expansion vessel). The manual says to turn three water isolation valves off. Two of them are butterfly valves like this (photo) but I've tried *gently* to turn it towards me and it's not moving. I...

1.0 bar or 0.8 bar for new expansion vessel?

Morning All, I have a new primary (internal) expansion vessel arriving today for my Potterton Powermax HE 150 boiler. The manual says it should be set to 1.0 bar, however, I've seen it mentioned that's only for 'cold' pressures and that it should be set to 0.2 bar less, (i.e. 0.8 bar). I'm...

Potterton Powermax 150 HE Expansion Vessel

Thanks Daniel, Yes, I read about this on mikertheboilerman's website (an excellent resource for us poor PowerMax owners!). It affects boilers manufactured between 2001 and 2005. I called Potterton about a week ago regarding this safety recall and gave them the serial number of my 2007 boiler...

Potterton Powermax 150 HE Expansion Vessel

OK, Took all of the covers off today, as per Potterton service manual, to look inside. It is now clear that this boiler has never been worked on or serviced since installation eight years ago. The 'roof' panel was covered in plaster rubble and dust from where the two flues are routed into the...

Potterton Powermax 150 HE Expansion Vessel

Cheers Andy - will pick a couple up.

Potterton Powermax 150 HE Expansion Vessel

OK thanks for the reply. CH has been off for a couple of hours. Current pressure is 1.4 bar. So power off boiler and empty internal expansion vessel via Schraeder valve before doing anything else? When the air stops coming out of the Schraeder valve, the boiler's pressure gauge will then tell...

Potterton Powermax 150 HE Expansion Vessel

We only moved in 18 months ago. We thought the house had been well cared-for, but have found more and more things wrong with the place. I don't BELIEVE the boiler has ever been serviced. I could be wrong though. No service record and Potterton don't have it registered. We will service it, but...

Potterton Powermax 150 HE Expansion Vessel

Morning Folks, Last week, I managed to get a radiator working that I believe has never worked since the house was built in 2007. Massive thank you to Dalalio on this forum who helped me with the problem. I've read the FAQ on re-pressurising and here's my plan for today. Would really appreciate...

**SOLVED** Danfoss TRVs with 'incorrect' flow setting

You're not wrong there! Elbow fitted, radiator is lovely and toasty now. Probably the first time it's ever worked! (Slight leak where 10mm plastic pipe goes into TRV, but I 'll sort that separately (the plastic pipe and inserts can be re-used, right?) Boiler's just locked out. Error code says...
